Happy Paddys day :!: Today I had Corned Beef and Cabbage at the World Famous GREGGS RESTAURANT :!: Next week I will eat Matzah and Gefilte Fish :!: WHAT A COUNTRY :!: :!: :!: jif
This will be a good evening. Irish soda bread, corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, Guinness and the finals of the CCHA league championship with the Irish favored. BTW busy time in Detroit area. The NCAA wrestling championships are also here at the Palace.
Just had leftovers for dinner. We did the usual corned beef in Guinness in the oven. I like it much better than boiled. This year I also roasted the potatoes, plus several small onions. If any of you like to put a dollop of mustard on your plate to dip the corned beef, the hot mustard from Philippe's is by far the best I've had. If you order some from them you will not be disappointed. Beers this year were Old Speckled Hen (Brit), Guinness and Murphy's. Couldn't find Smithwick's or Beamish. And once again, thanks to the Jews for introducing corned beef to Irish-Americans. And for Hank Greenberg, too.
You have a great memory T !! ZEPOLLE..yes I had one yesterday in honor of my wife's birthday that falls on the same day!http://italianfood.about.com/library/rec/blr0442.htm
I've got to have that one of these days! It doesn't seem to be a tradition around here, or maybe I don't know the right Italians!!
Remind me next year and I will OVERNITE a box of Zeppole to you!...I bet your sis knows what they are..The Boston area is loaded with Italian Bakeries! jif
As I'm reading this thread I'm having my lunch, a corned beef sandwich. There's only Kim and me, and the smallest corned beef the butcher had was 5.5 pounds. Fine by me, though.
