Yikes…Hoosiers are curb stomping #9 Illinois 35-10 at the half. A Beilema coached Wisconsin put 82 points on the Hoosiers a few years ago so I suspect the Hoosier fans are enjoying watching Cignetti putting the belt to ass on Bret.
63-10 for the Hoosiers. The thing that really impresses me is how well they execute offensively. Precise ball fakes, full effort, no sloppiness, cleaver play calls. It is clear that their coaching staff are teachers and emphasize players executing every detail well.
Bobda, IU is undergoing an experience few traditionally mediocre programs ever get to see. I remember taking my family to the kids' first IU game (my wife Judy was an alum) sometime back in the early 80s when there were almost as many people at the tailgates as in the stadium for the second half. I think we were playing Illinois and getting killed. We had perfect seats on the 50. By the third quarter they all wanted to leave and go to the campus bookstore. I said no. Last night the stands remained full until the end. Cignetti has judiciously mixed the portal with better recruiting to build - in record time - a highly competitive program. It's possible Illinois was grossly overrated at season's outset. We'll see as the season progresses. One thing is certain. IU no longer is the Big 10's doormat.
Wow...did not expect that at all. I saw them several times last year and it was clear to me that they were legit and that the man could flat coach. I did however believe he had caught lightning in a bottle and a repeat of that success was highly unlikely. Almost complete roster turnover and they did that to a team returning alot of production from last year and highly regarded by many, myself included. What was most surprising was that they completely dominated the game physically against a team that typically defines itself by their physicality. Say what you want about Bielema but his teams have been known for tough, physical football for decades. IU had + 300 yards rushing -v- Illinois with 2 and they dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage. Very disciplined, physical and well-coached team that executed at a high level. Pretty clear that Cignetti is an excellent coach with the ability to evaluate talent, develop players, teach and motivate at a high level. Damn glad we don't play 'em! Biggest takeaway is that IU was wise to sign him to a big extension last year because there are a whole lot of AD's getting phone calls from big donors anxious to have him on their sideline.
Not much change in the AP top 10. Top 7 are the same, but Illinois plummeted out after the IU beat down and the Aggies, FSU and OU move up a slot to replace them.
Was not aware of this rule. An SEC officiating crew failed to identify a "hideout tactic" on Oklahoma's second-quarter touchdown in the 11th-ranked Sooners' Week 4 win over No. 22 Auburn, the conference announced late Saturday night. Oklahoma led 10-3 after quarterback John Mateer connected with Isaiah Sategna for a 24-yard touchdown with 10:45 remaining in the first half Saturday. Before the snap, Sategna had walked toward the Sooners' sideline appearing to feign a substitution, but he remained on the field before streaking down the sideline through the Tigers' secondary undetected for the scoring reception. SEC calls out refs for missing OU's 'hideout tactic'
Looking at next weekends schedule, there are a number of very big games. Starting with UGA v Alabama, Ole Miss v LSU, Auburn v Texas A&M, Notre Dame vs Arkansas, Oregon vs Penn State, IU vs Iowa and Ohio State vs Washington. Don't forget that the Ryder Cup will be played at Bethpage Black...oh my should be awesome.
Mike Gundy is out at Oklahoma State, last year's team was a disaster and a bad start this year sealed it. Tulsa, Oklahoma News
Very bad news for the Sooners. John Mateer is having hand surgery and will be lost for more than a few games. He was key to their turn around. Not sure who they have for a back up. Oklahoma quarterback and early Heisman Trophy front-runner John Mateer will miss about a month after suffering a broken bone in his right (throwing) hand in Saturday's win over Auburn, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel. The Sooners announced Mateer will undergo surgery, but did not disclose details of the injury or a timeline for return. Mateer's injury came in the first quarter of the 24-17 win, the seventh-ranked Sooners' second victory over an AP Top 25 team this season.
Wild story, I guess it's true. It guess it would be for ND/USC games going forward because it's at home for ND and NBC of course has the rights. But the continuation of the series is a bit up in the air as the contract ends with this years game. USC wants to continue it only if ND will play them in Sept every year not the current setup which always takes place during their conference season. Netflix colluding with USC to get around both ND's NBC contract and USC's Big 10 contract. The effort was quickly shut down by Big Ten officials, per Puck’s John Ourand, but the details of what Netflix was cooking up are incredible. Because Notre Dame has its own TV deal with NBC and USC games fall under the Big Ten TV deals, Netflix had to get creative. The streamer reportedly worked alongside USC representatives to relocate the game to a neutral site in Las Vegas or Mexico City, to circumvent the existing agreements. While Ourand’s takeaway from conversations around the Big Ten was that USC breached customs within the tradition and is seen as quite naive for its failed attempt to sell a one-off game to Netflix, the entire snafu provides far broader lessons around college football media. Big Ten reportedly shut down Netflix attempt to poach TV rights to Notre Dame-USC game
Whoa! I hope ND wasn't involved in those conversations. Doesn't make sense to me, but what do I know about money-grabbing tactics? Obviously, nothing.
I'm just glad the Big 10 squelched it. Shame on USC...though the upside would be that the game would go on. Hopefully they can come to some kind of agreement. Alternate years? I note that the Big 10 has no problem dealing with Peacock, though maybe that allows for more games to be nationally televised.
