So I watched the Ohio West Virginia game…. Wow! What an ugly game! Congrats to the Ohio Bobcats but how they had 4 turnovers and still won is a mystery to me. West Virginia must be pretty bad this season. Bobcats can’t turnover the ball over Saturday night that defense in ‘The Shoe!
While as a ND fan I can appreciate that MAC teams can rise up and bite you, I can't see Ohio State winning by less than 40 points.
Some really good games. ND v Texas A&M Wisconsin v Alabama Georgia v Tenn Florida v LSU ....better known as the Billy Napier good bye tour. USF v Miami ...USF coach getting some love for the UF job.
I remember the A&M game in South Bend where a lot of us met. I was (and remain) VERY impressed with the A&M band. Normally not a big fan of the military style band marching, but duh they are a military school and BOY do they do it right!
Stu, I know you're a band guy. In the mid-90s I attended the Cotton Bowl between ND and A&M, essentially a home game for A&M. I also was greatly impressed by the band and by the A&M fans, who cheered in unison to the point where it became annoying to the opposing fans, exactly what A&M intended. At the same time, I admired the very high level of enthusiasm. Fortunately, we won the game.
I've seen the band many a time starting back in 1960 when my brother Dennis was a freshman at A&M and we went to games. It was 100% Corp back then and the student body was all male, about 5k Cadets. They had a lot of traditions back then. Of course thngs have changed quite a bit since then.
Ha! Miss State fans showed no restraint and ignored the 3 minute grace period...shocking. Cost the University 500K!! BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Mississippi State has been fined $500,000 by the SEC for its fans rushing the field following a home win over then-No. 12 Arizona State. The Bulldogs knocked off the Sun Devils 24-20 on Saturday and their students rushed the field after, carrying the goalposts with them out of Davis Wade Stadium as they left. The win was Mississippi State's first over a top-15 nonconference opponent since 1991. The SEC altered its policy on field and court storming over the summer, imposing a $500,000 fine each instance instead of escalating penalties. The conference has discretion to wave the penalty if officials and the opposing team are able to get off the field before fans enter the field, but fans were already on the field before Arizona State's players and coaches could leave.
This has become a real problem across college campuses in recent years. Frankly I do not have any solutions. Fines are not the answer!
Looks like SEC coaches support the new Portal proposal, while Big 10 coaches are against it. SEC coaches back portal move, buck Day concern I just hate the Portal.
SEC coaches expressed support Wednesday for the proposed move of college football's transfer portal window from December to January, arguing it's the best option even if it conflicts with the College Football Playoff schedule. "I'm sorry, there's no crying on the yacht," LSU coach Brian Kelly said Wednesday during the weekly SEC teleconference. "I mean, we gotta get this thing set and [in] its best position at this time to allow us to set our rosters moving forward."
Ohio State coach Ryan Day said Tuesday that he was not a fan of the proposal to open the transfer portal window on Jan. 2, 2026, for a 10-day period immediately following the CFP quarterfinals. Day is concerned about the difficulty of assembling a roster for next season while still competing in the playoff. He said he believes a majority of Big Ten coaches and Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti agree with him. Kelly said his fellow SEC coaches are unanimous in their support of shifting to a January portal period.
Coach Day has been very critical of the proposal from Day one. Looks like some major differences between the two conferences. I certainly can understand his reasoning.
I can see both sides of the argument. If the portal dates are set any later, the athletes who are transferring may not be able to enroll for the spring semester at their new school. If the revised portal dates remain as proposed, then teams still in the playoffs will have to evaluate and act on portal activities while preparing for their next playoff opponent. However, the dates now actually have the same impact on more playoff teams than the proposed dates, don't they? Do those opposing this change have a better proposal?
What's the real tragedy in kids maybe not getting to enroll for the spring semester and go through spring drills? I'd like it to be after the season is over for everyone.
You know what? You might be right. I don’t really care that much. It won’t matter when one of the athletes sue the NCAA because they don’t like what ever dates are decided on, the whole thing will blow up anyways.
Easy fix is to let kids who commit to a school but unable to enroll for Spring Semester to practice with the team in Spring Drills. They let high school kids practice with teams during bowl prep and they haven't enrolled yet.
Meanwhile in Austin, the Longhorns get another cream puff game with UTEP coming to town. So more time for Arch and the offense to become really awesome, and even creamier puff next week in Sam Houston recently a Div II program. Then a week off before going on the road to the Swamp to face a big unknown in Fla.
