BREAKING: Notre Dame has landed a commitment from Great Bend (KS) tight end Ian Premer, a consensus Top 50 prospect.Ranked No. 43 nationally and No. 3 among tight ends ERIC THOMAS
certainly is going well Very positive read on the ND/Penn State recruiting battles. https://lastwordonsports.com/colleg...losing-the-recruiting-war-against-notre-dame/
The stat that stands out to me is the 8.82 K/BB ratio. I've never seen it at any level that lopsided. I'm guessing the lure of the high draft pick $ will take him away from ND, but you never know. With NIL, he can get at least a partial college education (finish later), make money, and have a fallback in case his arm falls off (figuratively speaking). Fingers crossed but not much hope.
I hope McElroy is right! Greg McElroy appeared on ‘The Independent’ podcast’s 25th June episode and was asked about the situation in the QB room by host Pete Sampson, since McElroy was inside the team several times watching their practices. The ESPN analyst, although, said that he didn’t watch the practices with “full pads on” but saw enough to analyze CJ Carr’s talent as he declared. “Just watching the ball come off the guy’s hand (CJ Carr), it’s like all right, he’s different, and it’s no disrespect to what Riley was from an arm talent standpoint.” Well, we all know that Riley Leonard didn’t have an elite arm, but the guy could run like his life depended on it. The guy notched up 906 rushing yards along with 2,861 passing yards and was lethal in the red zone. For instance, of Riley’s 12 touchdown passes, 12 came in the red zone with just 2% turnovers. And so, CJ Carr, as pointed out by McElroy, is different, but that doesn’t mean he is not lethal in his own way, so much so that McElroy declared that he already was expecting CJ Carr to start behind the center. “I kind of knew that if they were going to go and and win the natty, and they’re going to go and compete against the top teams in college football, having that high-level ceiling quarterback is always going to be the utmost benefit and I think CJ is probably that guy,” said McElroy. ESPN’s analyst verdict is no speculation; CJ Carr undoubtedly looks like the real deal. CJ Carr Draws Major Greg McElroy Verdict at Notre Dame Predecessor Riley Leonard's Expense
One of my favorite bowl games, the infamous Cheerios Bowl. Helped that it was vs Spurrier a coach I loved to hate.
Thanks, Terry. You made my day with that post. Like for you, it was for me a very satisfying win. I had long forgotten how dominating Bettis was.
Thanks for the memory Terry. It brings up happy and sad memories. Always a treat to watch Lou lead his "underdog" teams to a "surprise" victory. Always a treat to see the Bus rambling out of control. Sad when I think of Rodney Culver and the tragic air crash that took him so early. I had a close frind named Jim who bled Maize and Blue. He was a volunteer coach at Martin DePores where Culver played HS ball. At the funeral for Culver Jim was introduced to Lou who had met all the other team coaches. When it was time to be seated Jim took a seat near the back of the church. Lou walked up to him and told him paid or not he was a coach and he would sit with Lou and the other coaches near the front where a space had been reserved. Jim never forgot that gesture and was a big Lou fan until he passed away a couple of years later of a massive coronary in his mid 40's. Sorry to ramble.
Irish baseball picks up a transfer player, I hope he's good!! Ivy Baseball maybe not the same level as ACC baseball for sure, but doesn't mean he can't play up and make it. Losing Carson Tinney was a big blow for Notre Dame's baseball program. But head coach Shawn Stiffler and his staff found a very good solution for that hole at catcher in the transfer portal. The Fighting Irish picked up a commitment from 2024 Ivy League rookie of the year Mark Quatrani from Cornell.Quatrani is a career .338 hitter who recorded a .318 average and .966 OPS with 10 doubles, six home runs and 24 RBI as a sophomore in 2025. As a freshman, the 5-foot-11, 200-pound Pennsylvania native hit .362 with a 1.207 OPS.
Gip, not rambling. Thanks for the story. Always sad to hear of good folks dying so young like Rodney Culver and your friend Jim. Terry, re:Quatrani. He's playing college baseball. Unlike football and basketball, the difference in baseball between ACC and Ivy League is almost razor thin in terms of pitching, at least IMO.
