I meant to put these up earlier but like I posted in another post got tied up with grading tests this week. But here's a few.

    • What was special about the 1950 CCNY team that won?

      Who was Phi Slamma Jamma?

Which team was the last team to go undefeated? What year?

What prompted the NCAA to allow more than one team from a conference beginning in 1975?

How many teams participated in the first NCAA Tournement?

What team did the fab five play for?

What team scored the most points in a tournament game?

We're going to town but I'll check back later.

as I recall, 8 teams participated somewhere in the wild west in the first NCAA tournament

Indiana last undefeated team in 1976.

WAG that 16 teams were in the first NCAA tournament.

1950 CCNY team won both NCAA and NIT (They were equal in stature at that time).

Don't know answers to 1975 and highest points in a game questions.

When the field expanded to 32 teams in '75 there were enough spots for more than one team from each conference.

You guys are good, you've got them all but one.

Houston was Phi Jamma Slamma and reached the finals in 83 and 84. If they could have made free thows they would have won one of the.

Indiana in 1976 was the last team to go undefeated. And as a side note I picked Bobby Knights Texas Tech team to win a game today but he lost again.

Eight teams were in the first tournament.

The Fab Five played for Michigan.

As for the expansion, yes it was to allow more than one team from a conference but there was a team that caused it to happen. I'll put that one out, Maryland was ranked #4 but lost to NC State in the 74 ACC playoff and was left out of the big dance.

That leaves the team that scored the most points. I'll give this clue, Michigan was the losing team.

    Here's a few more
    • What team has the most all time tournament wins, not winning the whole thing but most games won?

What team has the most Final Four apperances?

What team won had the lowest seed and won the tournament? And who were they?

    Gotta go to dinner.

Arizona was a #4 seed when they won the National Championship, Sid. They did do something in winning the tournament that no other team had done before (or since?). Wanna guess what that was?

(And no, it wasn't pay the refs. )

Sid and Gipper get Kentucky for the most wins and Gipper gets North Carolina for the most final four apperances.

That leaves the lowest seed and the most points, no one has got those two right.

You guys are going to be very familiar with the two answers remaining. Lowest seed to win it all, and/or the team and the team that scored the most points.

Probably the one with the fewest points is the most difficult question I asked and I doubt anyone gets it unless they do some research.

But I bet all you middle age and older guys remember the other two.

Good call, Jif. You're right, Villanova was a #8 seed when they beat Georgetown in '85.

Sid - Arizona beat three #1 seeds in winning the championship.

Now I remember. They made a big deal about it at the time, but I had long since forgotten. Thanks. Interesting stuff.

Way to go JIF, Villanova was an 8 seed when they beat Georgetown.

That was a good question Rick, I had no idea.

Ok there are two left, the highest and lowest scoring teams.

We're leaving to go back to Florida tomorrow so keep those guesses coming.

Get the high scoring team and I'll give you the low scoring team.

Ok Bill..stab in the dark. I recall back in the 40's scores were still very low. I think they might have still had the CENTER JUMP after every basket in early 40's. Wyoming ( with Curt Gowdy) won one and I remember Utah with a 7 footer winning one against Dartmouth. Ill say the lowest scoring winner was Wyoming. jif

Good logic JIF and that gets you in the ball park. I don't know the winning low score but do have the low score which was a loser. And you do have the time frame right as far as rules being different than they are now.

I'm going to leave it for a while yet.

But that high score for a winner was not that long ago, at least in the eyes of this old timer. And again Michigan was the losing team.
