Media is also trumping up a Ryan Day to the Cowboys, but again I will be shocked if he would want to go to work for Jerry Jones.

Not hearing alot of definitive/credible info....he does have ties to OK from his time in Stillwater. I read somewhere that he has a fiancée that still lives in OK as she was unwilling to move to OH. No idea how reliable that is but that's all I got.....hard time seeing him working under another Def "guru" with perhaps his own ideas. I love the guy, quite a character and clearly he's done a helluva job. It was only 2-3 year ago we have a defense that was pitiful and couldn't stop squat! Hope it's just a rumor

That seems pretty dubious - seeing as he's a football coach and they rarely live in the same spot for long periods.

BuckeyeT, Thanks for responding to Terry's question about Knolls. This was all new to me so I wouldn't have much to share.

Some number of years ago we traveled and visited several colleges. Notre Dame and Nebraska. No pictures to post though.

One thing for sure is that there needs to be some rules with regards to agents. In Pro sports an agent contacting teams and offering their clients up before free agency is tampering and there are consequences.

That's not true now, of course Miami can't contact Smith unless he's in the portal, but his agent can fish around and say he might enter the portal if the $$$$ is right. That's tampering and there should be consequences. If the kid wants to go to the portal and see what he can get, I don't like it but it's the way the portal is supposed to work.

When a kid goes into the portal and has a do not contact you can bet he's already got a deal in place.

What I have heard about Smith is he's antsy about his QB next year and would really love to play with DJ Lagway at UF. But now that Beck is at Miami and if they are offering that kind of money it has to be tempting for him esp now that he has a Natty in the bag.

I hate this that you have to fight to keep your best players from going for more money somewhere else.

Well, it's like the pros and we knew it would be...the rich gonna get richer like we knew would happen...everyone competes with everyone with $ offers. One difference, however, is that they can play a year for a certain amount then hit the portal for a new deal...maybe there should be some multi-year contracts available rather than year to year. Maybe the payments for each player should be made public, so we can know what we're paying for and how much.

Maybe a bit off topic, but J.T. Barnett has been hired as the new QB coach for the Chicago Bears. Barnett played for the Buckeyes 2011-2014 but missed playing for the 2014 championship due to an injury in the Michigan Game. He has made a rapid advancement coaching in the pros with the Detroit LIons. Congratulations J.T.!

    Love me some Mitch Daniels. Pay walled opinion today in Wall Street Journal suggesting that schools pay taxes on the money they are raising and the business that they are running;

"Nonprofits collecting revenue not contributing directly to their mission are supposed to declare it “unrelated income” and pay taxes on it. How long will colleges be able to maintain the fiction that their sponsorship of professional football is for the purpose of advancing education?

The argument that athletic success boosts either enrollment or other, nonathletic fundraising has never been persuasively demonstrated, and it was refuted in a 2019 study of the topic.

A few years ago, in a presidents-only Big Ten meeting, I floated the idea that we all commit some percentage of the money from an impending new TV contract to academic purposes. Every head nodded, but it quickly became clear that most were terrified to take such an idea back to their boards or athletic departments. The absurd notion was never heard of again.

The new professional league is a fact of life and already a tremendous success. But the lucky schools at this trough can’t have it both ways. They have entered a business, one that is not merely “unrelated” to the purpose of educating young people but to an extent in direct competition with it. It was fair that they share some of the proceeds with the participants; they should also share some with their taxpaying fans.

Daniels is a senior adviser to the Liberty Fund, president emeritus of Purdue University and a former governor of Indiana."

I like Mitch Daniels. I liked him as governor, and he did - IMO - an outstanding job as president of Purdue. If he has a thought he should be listened to. If he's talking only about NIL, he may have a point. However, my only frame of reference is ND, and I know they allocate a not-minimal portion of all their sports revenue to student aid. The question is, can you (rhetorical) draw a line from the NIL $ to providing a competitive program to student aid. Certainly, this season ND's football revenue is way up due to its CFP success. Perhaps if they hadn't spent wisely re: NIL, they might not have as much for student aid. See where I'm going? I'm not inferring he's wrong. I just wonder if that's the posture of the "lucky schools" and if it holds water. As I often say in fluctuating situations, time will tell.

The rumours I see on ND Boards are that Knowles had problems of some sort with the Ohio State Staff and that's why he's leaving.

He's been so successful, what kind of problems could he have?

Houston Texans are reportedly interested in Chip Kelly.

Saban usually lost one or both of his coordinators almost every year.
