Buckeyes and Badgers go at it again for the Big Ten Tournament title. If we win, a #1 seed guaranteed. Sometimes I think we tend to put too much emphasis on the seeds. It is how well you play that counts. One loss and you are looking at next year in the Big Dance. Georgetown and Memphis look like real strong contenders, along with North Carolina, Florida, and UCLA. I wonder who will be one of the top seeds to bite the bullet early on in the tournament? Really an exciting time of the year for those of us who enjoy college hoops. Best of luck to all Skyboxers and their teams! Don
The higher your seed the easier the path to the Final Four, you are guaranteed a #16 seed for the first round and at best a #7 seed for the second round. But of course there are always upsets!! But I don't think a #16 has ever beaten a #1, seed. Terry
As I write this, Kansas is losing to Texas. UCLA has tanked at the end of the regular season. No question that North Carolina, Ohio State, and Florida are #1 seeds. Why is no one mentioning Georgetown as the 4th #1 seed? That's my choice.
Sid, I am with you on Georgetown! Buckeyes finally come to life in second half and win Big Ten Tournament. Looks like Kansas & Texas in OT. Don
By golly, Kansas wins in OT. Looks like they will be the 4th #1 seed. I can't argue with that. I'm going to guess that G-town, UCLA, Wisc, and Texas A&M are the #2 seeds. Anyone else want to take a shot before the selection show?
The Aggies piss-poor game against Ok St cost us our #2. I'm kinda miffed at the committee for giving a #6 seed (Louisville) what amounts to a couple of home games for the first two rounds. However, I'm thrilled to be IN again!
A great weekend of basketball for those who enjoy hoops. I think we have an excellent chance of making it to the final four soming out of the South Region. Time will tell. Now we need to get some much needed rest and start all over again on Thursday. Don
I'm not losing any sleep over it, but you have to wonder how Syracuse gets passed over when a team like Arkansas gets in.
"More importantly, however, is the message the committee sent with its designation of Florida as the tournament's No. 1 overall seed. Forget RPI rankings, Top-50 records or late-season slumps. The committee basically formalized what most of us already believed: The defending champion Gators are still the team to beat until proven otherwise." The above from Mandel at CNNSI... Nice to be the overall number ONE seed.....real nice....
MCG, I think Florida probably has the easiest bracket, but then again teams like Arizona Maryland & Oregon could be real challenges. It should be an interesting tournament. Don
Unless I missed someone, only three teams in the tournament have won 30 or more games.. Kansas 30-4, Memphis 30-3 and Ohio State 30-3. Thats one whale of a lot of wins!
Other interesting number that they gave out. 100+ teams won 20 or more games this year, up from the previous high of 78. Of course a lot of teams are scheduling their way to 20 wins with very soft non-conference schedules.
After listening to an analysis this morning on ESPN, I retract my questioning of the Arkansas pick, primarily because of their willingness to play away games vs. quality OOC opponents, and replace it with Illinois. I'm only questioning it in comparison to the Syracuse rejection. Like I said before, I'm not losing any sleep over it, and I'm not a fan of Syracuse. It's just something that jumped out at me.
I was listening to ESPN Radio a little while ago and an interesting question was put forth to tweak the 64 picks. Instead of year end conference tournaments being granted automatic bids, switch to the conference winners. (Much more difficult to win the conference) Then make the at large picks from the tournament winners or runner ups. Makes sense to me. Any thoughts? Don
