IU's final regular season game vs. Purdue was in the snow with frigid temps. Result: IU won 66-0. Yes, Purdue was a weak opponent. My point is that the weather didn't slow down IU's offense. IMO the weather impact will be neutral. I'm hoping our defensive secondary and our running game will come to play like they have in the second half of the season.
Sid I have a granddaughter at Butler. She's graduating this year and never used the portal. Of course, she's not an athlete....
Oldest daughter Molly who recently moved down here to The Villages. She's actually teaching remotely at OSU from here.
Irish women roll over E. Michigan 118-49. Emma Risch who has played very little but was a top rated recruit hit 7 3 pointers..pretty much everybody got into the act. Marcus Freeman got a big extension and a big raise into the upper stratosphere of coaching salaries, reportably. Everybody was really happy, lose to IU and everybody will do a 180 flip!
I hope Xavier Watts lives up to his AA status against the IU passing game!! Now his third two-time first-team All-American honor, graduate safety Xavier Watts has been named a First Team All-American by the Associated Press (AP). This marks the second-straight year in which Notre Dame has had a two-time AP First Team All-American, as Watts joins Irish offensive lineman Joe Alt (2022-23). Watts is one of two repeat first-team selections this season, joining Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. Watts, a Notre Dame team captain, was also named an AFCA and Walter Camp First-Team All-American, both for the second-consecutive season. The Associated Press All-America team is one of the five All-America teams that are utilized to determine both consensus and unanimous All-America honors. The Football Writers Association of America and The Sporting News teams are the other three that have yet to announce their teams.
Apparently the Irish have picked up Devonta Smith the Alabama DB who was in the portal. He was a starter on the Tide defense. Always makes me wonder why a starter at a place like Alabama would leave, but if he's healthy and as good as advertised, welcome to ND. Smith, who was the starting HUSKY (also known as the nickel defensive back), finished this season with 30 tackles, was third on the Crimson Tide in pass breakups with five and also forced and recovered a fumble.
Somebody dug up a Reddit thread on this, all Alabama fans. * This is a bad one, he was a starter for us and going to take on even more of a leadership role * Glad Smith stayed and was a reliable veteran who brought a much needed floor to the Husky position, but Red Morgan in his second year should be an upgrade and there’s a solid chance Smith wouldn’t start next year given the players returning. Smith also really struggled staying healthy during his time here. * He was a solid, reasonably reliable starter for us. He had good experience, but he was a little bit of a hot head in a couple games and he's gotten burned sometimes. Definitely a guy we would've liked to keep, but he wasn't really a superstar either. * Yeah he provides a floor but he wouldn’t start over Sabb/Hubbard at safety and Red Morgan in year 2 offers a higher ceiling at the Husky spot and will likely be ready for the job (and good chance wins it given he was a co-starter for much of this year). Smith also had trouble staying healthy too with him only missing a game and parts of game this fall being by far the healthiest he has been any season. * This is the first one that’s both surprising and disappointing. Dude played pissed off 99% of the time and the defense needed that. We’ll miss him for sure. We have the talent there with Sabb and Hubbard as two returning starters, but DeVonta’s passion was a real boon for us. Insiders said why they’re hearing is his girlfriend back in Cincinnati is pregnant — so looking for him to move back closer to home if that’s the case. Can’t fault him at all for that. Really commendable and wish him the best! * This one hurts the most so far. He was good and was a starter. Dealt with injuries a few times this season but bounced back. Good luck to him * This sucks for us:/
Mostly agree with the gist of what these guys said. He was only with us for one season but he was a solid contributor. I’m sorry to see him go.
A ND recruit, Mark Zachery IV, recruited (I think) as a DB, has been named Indiana Mr. Football. Ben Davis two-way star wins 2024 Indiana Mr. Football
Yeah somebody posted on the NDNation that we were going to wear All Black, and that set off somewhat of a firestorm.
I can nt believe that anyone on this board, namely Notre Dame fans, could fall for that kind of Internet post?
The more I read about IU the more I am worried, I will not be surprised if they win on Friday night. That qB is really good and everything I read says that they have a great defense. Some try to make a lot out of their weaker schedule but it's not that much weaker than the ND schedule. Also the ease at which USC passed the ball on us is very worrisome.
Terry, all your concerns are valid, and I share them. To add to our angst, here's an article an IU friend sent me which matches each team's strengths against each team's weaknesses. It gives me some things to watch for. Notre Dame vs. Indiana: Key advantages for each team in first-round College Football Playoff game
