Ohio State clinched their second straight Big Ten Championship under coach Thad Matta this afternoon with a one point win over Wisconsin. The Buckeyes probably will move up to #1 in both polls Monday. It was a closely contested game all the way and a pretty rough one at that, with the officials letting them play. With that being said, I do not see any one team a real favorite in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. It seems to be we have an almost uneaquled field of solid contenders for the title. I am proud to be a Buckeye today! Don
Congratulations Don, and meantime my Gators are limping toward the finish line and could lose their number one seed.
Great win Don, I think you Buckeyes did sew up a #1 seed. I was watching Sports Center and Joe Lunardi said it's really down to 5 teams competing for the 4 #1 seeds. UNC, UCLA, OSU, Wisconsin, and Florida. So for those teams the conference tourney's might be pretty important.
Although ugly at times that was a good game. I especially enjoyed it since I have nothing riding on the outcome! Congrats to the Buck fans on the conf banner! Now if my guys can just hang on to get one too... 8)
I see Scott is doing his pre-tourney homework..... 8) It was ugly at times and there was a whole lot of bangin' goin' on. That Wisky group is a physical, feisty bunch and Tucker is a baller so its great to get out of there with a win and seal the regular season title. Great win for these kids and the staff. While Oden gets the majority of the press and deserves much, the Conley kid is just as special. Did not play his best game of the year but got it done when it counted. I'm excited to watch these kids in the tourney, but still believe they are too young and inexperienced to threaten a trip to the Final 4....I'd like to see them prove me wrong!
I might add that the women won the conference championship as well, defeating Michigan today. Congratulations to the ladies. Don
Congrats to the Buckeyes! 49-48 is a lot of defense. I think Ohio State, UCLA and Florida have the best defenses that I've seen this year, although there are several good ones; Pitt and TAMU come to mind. I think the Final Four will include four good defenses (again.)
Hey Don Give MSU some credit for setting up today's showdown. Their win against the Badgers earlier in the week made today possible.
Gipper, No question about that and they have to face MSU again this week! Jo'Co, Our defense has improved. Early on it was all offense and Oden was just swating shots away.
"http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/basketball/ncaa/02/26/bc.bkc.collegebkbpoll.ap/index.html" 1st time in 45 years surprises me.. Congrats.
Thanks, guys... It's nice but what matters is how you finish up. I don't think any of the top teams have seperated themselves from the pack much.
Jayhawks almost stumbled with Oklahoma last night. Won by two points after a big lead in the first half. Like Stu, a lot of good teams this year, but no real solid standout team. Should make for an interesting tournament.
As the talking heads have mentioned... there will likely to be a LOT of first round upsets, even all the way to the #3 seeds. Should make for a very tough time picking your brackets this year!
Badgers lost a starter in that game, Brian Butch who will be out 4-6weeks. That means that he won't play again this season. Not only does that hurt them as a team, but in the past the NCAA has taken injuries to important players into consideration when they hand out seeds. We all remember when Cincy lost Keyon Martin and dropped from a #1 seed to a #3 seed. So this is likely to cost Wisconsin a #1 seed if precedent is followed.
Butch has been Whiskey's top rebounder. Don't be surprised if MSU hands tem another loss Saturday at the Kohl Center. Don
Read a funny comment somewhere...I think it was USA Today. Guy was talking about Oden getting held and grabbed...said the last time that he saw a Buckeye getting grabbed that much it was Troy Smith in the Florida game.
