From reading about the OL, as always it's Alt,Corell and Fisher who are solid as starters. At guard it seemed like it was going to be Kristofic and Schrauth at first but now Rocco and a couple of other of the younger players are getting in the mix. That's a good thing.
Here's an interesting story about Dylan Devezin, a walk on who now finds himself heading to Dublin with the team. Irish Walk-On Ascends to Top of Depth Chart – Fighting Irish Preview
“I had a couple of Division III offers, Belhaven College, and Milsaps in Mississippi but I bet on my education and came to Notre Dame.” He told the media after a recent practice. God is that refreshing to read these days. long snapper Michael “Milk” Vinson Why is our long snapper nicknamed Milk? I genuinely want to know because I bet that is a great story. Totally unrelated news, I had a dream about Tod Jeffers last night. Weird. We drank a lot of beer in the dream. It's odd because Tod is no longer with us and because of the meds I take, I can't drink.
Todd was quite the character....but dream about him? As to Milk. Tyler Newsome the free-spirted punter had nicknamed the specialist group “The Cheese Unit” but felt the freshman Vinson hadn't aged enough to join himself, kicker Justin Yoon and long snapper John Shannon. Hence, the nickname “Milk.” “I had to earn my Cheese status,” Vinson said. “But he kind of introduced me to everyone as 'Milk.
So who does Chip Kelly thinks has the right approach to football alignment? Surprisingly....ND. Chip Kelly says Notre Dame should be model for conference affiliations - Saturday Road
Interesting und.com has been rebranded and relaunched as FightingIrish.com a little different look but not that much. I wonder why they changed
Injury updates, Kevin Bauman, defensive end Aiden Gobaira are done for the year both with knee injuries. cb Chance Tucker is dealing with an achilles issue and is coming along slowly but likely will play this year, while WR KK Smith is recovering from off season shoulder surgery and is probably going to play later in the season. The mystery is Dusty Zigler... Freeman had this to say. Linebacker Nolan Ziegler missed the last two weeks of practice due to an undisclosed reason, but he was present on Saturday and is still a member of the team. “He’s here with the program,” Freeman said. “He’s just dealing with some off-the-field issues, but he’s a part of our program, and he was at practice today.”
Right now it seems that Pat Coogan is gioing to start at LG and it's not clear who will start at RG, Rocco, Kristofic or Billy Schrauth. Kristofic apparently has slipped as he's been a bit banged up.
Another big win on the recruiting trail for coach Shrewsberry. Man if this guy can actually coach things are going to be pretty good around ND Basketball. Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry made yet another big splash tonight when Charlotte (NC) Myers Park Top100 four-star combo guard Sir Mohammed announced his commitment to the Fighting Irish. The 6-6, 200-pounder is the latest class of 2024 prospect to commit to Notre Dame. Mohammed is the No. 42 overall player in the country and No. 4 prospect in the state of North Carolina according to 247Sports. The composite rankings list him slightly lower at No. 53 overall nationally.
I have nothing but love and respect for Muffet, but she's just saying what men's baseball has been saying for decades. Ever since Title IX gutted sports such as wrestling, baseball etc etc... they didn't want to hear that because football provided a virtually unlimited cash grab for women's sports. Now they're in big trouble, I find it a bit ironic that the first defense they jump to is what the men's non-football/basketball advocates have been calling for decades.
I suspect there are a great many people employed at colleges who love Olympic sports but destained college football as polluting the intellectual integrity of universities. Some are now realizing that it might not have been a good idea to ignore the health and welfare of the golden goose.
The 2 ND QB's who transferred, Pyne and Buchner from what I'm reading are going to be riding the pine at their new schools. Pyne was apparently running #2 and pulled a hamstring this weekend and likely won't practice the rest of fall camp, while Milroe seems to have seized the QB1 position at 'Bama so Buchner isn't likely to play much unless there is regression or an injury. I was rooting for both of those guys to have great camps and win the jobs and play well. Just goes to show you grass isn't always greener.
I don't know Terry, Saban has not tipped his choice of QB around here. As.a.matter.of fact.the final starter may not be decided by the first game. By the way, I'm taking my grandson to that.game.against Middle Tennessee.
Re: Buchner. I'm guessing that what drew him to AL is his comfort with Tommy Rees. That's an intangigible that may supercede whether he starts or not. If he's as smart as I think he is, he must have known the starting position was a long shot for him. As it stands, he's no worse off than he would have been at ND and has a strong relationship with his OC. That's just my thought. I have no opinion on Pyne.
