I wonder what his reasoning is for staying in college?

That is great news for Purdue but I was hoping that the Bucks would draft him as I think his athleticism and continuing improvement is being underestimated by NBA experts.

Haven't heard any quotes from him yet...but he was projected to be a late 2nd rounder. He has developed greatly each year under Matt Painter and mayhaps could use one more year of development to bolster his draft status next year...meanwhile the NIL money is there for him. Also prior to his decision to even declare for the draft in the first place he expressed his desire to stay on for another year with his teammates, if it made any sense for him.

Keep in mind he never played a lick of organized hoops until his Sophomore year in HS...meaning he has only played six years of organized ball. Before that he concentrated on hockey and baseball (was a pitcher).

Can you imagine a fastball coming in from 7'4''? Randy Johnson was only 6'10''.

In the past he probably would have come out and if he didn't make a NBA roster, he'd be in the G-League or even go to Europe and hope to develop all the while making some money. I imagine that the NIL money for him is as good or better than he'd get in the G-League or even Europe initially.

    More college players staying.

Illinois guard Terrence Shannon Jr. and forward Coleman Hawkins are withdrawing from the 2023 NBA Draft and will return to Champaign next
season, they announced separately on social media Wednesday. Here’s what you need to know:

    • Shannon was the team’s leading scorer in 2022-23, averaging 17.2 points per game, along with a team-high 1.3 steals per game.
    • Hawkins led Illinois in rebounds (6.3) and assists (3.0) per game as a junior last season.
    • The Fighting Illini finished last season 20-13 and fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Arkansas.

It's now worth it for some really good college players to stay in college rather than bolt for the NBA even though they are borderline as NBA prospects. From an ESPN article on Hunter Dickinson.

    +++++++++++++++++++

Dickinson arrives with proof rather than just potential. He averaged more than 17 points and eight rebounds per game in three seasons at Michigan and was a second-team All-America pick as a freshman. Questions about his ability to defend and his fit as a throwback center in the modern NBA kept him from testing NBA waters after his seasons at Michigan. In the old days of two years ago, his track record through three seasons might have been enough to convince him to leave college as a borderline NBA prospect or play professionally overseas. The ability to make money from name, image and likeness (NIL) deals the past two seasons has helped create a new breed of players -- others include Purdue's Zach Edey, North Carolina's Armando Bacot and Kentucky's Oscar Tshiebwe -- who have decided it's a better business decision to develop their games further while taking advantage of star power on basketball-obsessed college campuses rather than rushing to the professional ranks.

"We've talked about it. It's great because it's really helped keep us back in college," Dickinson said. "Being a good college basketball player is really fun."

Huggy Bear...ie Bob Huggins probably out at West Virginia after a DUI this weekend in Ohio coming on the heels of some very ill advised comments on a Podcast describing Xavier fans as a bunch of Catholic f$$S.

Pretty hard to have a coach like that, how do you go into kids homes and tell the parents with a straight face you are going to take care of and develope their young son when you are a total disaster yourself.

Huggins has been teetering on self-destruction going all the way back to his early years at UC. He finally succeeded.

Wow Lebron James son, Bronny, career might be over before it starts. He suffered a cardiac arrest at a USC practice. He's in ICU and stable now. That's pretty scary for an 18 y/o. I know they happen occasionally and it's usually some undiagnosed heart issue. I have read that some feel that all young athletes should undergo more stringent cardiac evaluation..ultrasound and stress tests. But I don't think that is the standard, probably due to costs if nothing else.

That would be a real tragedy for Bronny, if that plays out that way.:(

I'm seeing lots of different opinions on whether he can play again. That Bills DB who suffered a cardiac arrest has resumed his career, and reports of another USC player who also had a cardiac arrest is back playing. So we'll have to wait and see.

It is the second straight year the Trojans program has had a player suffer cardiac arrest.

Center Vincent Iwuchukwu, one of the top incoming freshmen in college basketball last season, suffered cardiac arrest on July 1, 2022, and was hospitalized for a few days. He returned to play for USC in January, appearing in 14 games.
