The ND class shrunk by 2 kids from 20 to 18 when Greg Little decided to decommit and go to UNC and Chris Little decided to decommit and go to Georgia. All other (18 ) LOI's are in now and Charlie has had a press conference. It's a disappointing class to me. It will still likely be a top 10 type of class and that is good, but it is smaller than it should have been, and there aren't enough defensive players in the class.
Looks like we are going to end up with 15 or 16 recruits at best. Not a large class, but very solid and strength where needed and some real good speed. As stated before, Tressel is holding out for more numbers next February with a very strong high school junior class here in Ohio. Don
Don we all have to admit it, Zook is the new King of the Midwest. Illinois will dominate the B10 and Notre Dame. We have to get used to it!
The Gators have done very well. We had one defection today to Miami but most Gators expected that one. We are at 26 and hoping for one more later today. We did pick up two that were not on our list, a CB from S. Florida and a Safety from Indiana. All in all the Gators are very happy.
Nole fans are dying over Thompson going to Fla. They thought they had a chance at him........silly noles.
While next year might not be a NC year for you Gators, I'd say that with what you have from last year, and what you've signed for this year when those kids are soph/jrs (2008) you should be a serious contender for the NC and from there on out as long as Urban can continue to recruit like this. Terry
Terry, it will be interesting to see what Meyer does next season with a very young defense. However the offense is pretty experienced, Tebow iw young at QB but I don't think he is inexperienced the way Meyer brought him along this season.
Some serious questions are being raised as to how Zook is able to recruit so well, with their medicore record and facilities? Suppssedly the Illini have spent thousands of dollars ,by an outside legal firm, to acertain if any irregularties can be pinned down. Don
One thing good I will say about Zook is that he is a rentless recruiter and will visit a lot of places to establish relationships. I certainly think that Illinois has enough football background that the right guy could put them back on the winning side. Zook may be that man in recruiting, but I still have major doubts about his overall abilities as a coach.
The potential. Ah, the potential. That's what swings the kids. Being the pioneers of the building of a great program. IMO, Illinois always has been a sleeping giant who nobody wants to awaken. If he is a Pied Piper in recruiting, which he has proven to be, he can convince a kid follow him into the river. Rhetorically speaking, I'd be very careful about accusing someone of dishonesty without clear supporting evidence. It makes the accuser look bad.
I'm with you Sid, it's always easy to accuse the other guy of something while thinking your program is perfect. Only thing is all of us usually have some flaws as well as some good points. Gator Bill
Everyone is talking about Florida and USC but Tennessee didn't do too bad either. Analysts pick UT among top signing classes
Nice job by Fulmer. I think it's important though that these guys give Phil less off-field issues than some of his recent classes have. That has been the key to Tenn's undoing recently IMHO.
One reason Urban does so well: http://media.www.thelantern.com/media/storage/paper333/news/2007/02/08/Sports/Picking.Gators.An.Easy.Choice-2706787.shtml?sourcedomain=www.thelantern.com&MIIHost=media.collegepublisher.com
You know if Miami would just eschew the "Thug Tradition" they could even be more attractive. I mean like USC and Hollywood, Miami has South Beach and even better weather than Gainesville. Gainesville is on the same latitude as Houston (about) and while we do have mild winters compared to Columbus, Anne Arbor or South Bend, we don't have Miami like winters. But I think that Thug tradition, which attracts the local Miami kids from Homestead and places like that, also probably turns off more kids who come from the suburbs and go to high school where having 2 or 3 illigitmate kids by graduation and rap sheet is a shame not a badge of honor. BTW. If you look at the Top 10 in recruiting. Only the Irish are a Midwestern/Northern Team. All the rest are warm weather states.
