Last night in Indy, there was an interstate HS basketball game on ESPN2 between Indpls. North Central HS and Chicago Loyola Academy HS. Loyola is ranked #22 in the U.S. and #2 in the state of Illinois. North Central is ranked #7 in the state of Indiana with 3 losses to date. Michael Jordan's two sons play for Loyola. Eric Gordon, #2 ranked in the country by someone, plays for North Central. MJ was at the game, and the camera focused on him even more than it did on Brady Quinn's sister at the 2006 Fiesta Bowl. Some of you might be aware that Gordon is the young man who withdrew his earlier verbal to Illinois and re-verbaled to Indiana. This touched off a furor among some Big Ten coaches who accused IU's coach, Kelvin Sampson, of continuing to recruit the kid after he had verballed to Illinois. How shocking. North Central won the game 88-47, and it wasn't even that close. Gordon scored 43 points. I don't believe that this proves anything regarding Indiana HS basketball vs. Illinois or that Gordon is the second coming of MJ. What is does prove is that high school basketball national rankings beyond the traditional top 3 or 4 programs in the country are not reliable. I'm guessing that Loyola received its ranking because MJ has two sons on the team.
Sid.... <t>I went back and forth between that one and Duke /UVa. First time I actually saw Gordon play. WOW !! I'm guessing he is another one and done at IU but Sampson has a great prospect on the way. I can see why Illinois is upset.</t>
