Purdue nice win a few moments ago over Duke, by a sizable margin, in the Phil Knight Tournament

I watched most of that game. Purdue looked very impressive. Some young players made big contributions on both ends of the floor.

I thought Xavier was going to win over the Zags tonight, but Gonzaga prevailed and took third place in the Phil Knight tournament tonight. The Zags were deadly from three point range, shooting better than 51 percent for the evening. Difficult for any team to match that type of offense.

Xavier has played a tough non conference schedule. IU, Duke, Gonzaga. Arkansas and have played well in all of them.

I imagine that this is all about money. The ACC/Big 10 Challenge has been a good thing it seems to me, but as I said this probably makes more money.

The Atlantic Coast Conference, Southeastern Conference and ESPN today announced the formation of the ACC/SEC Challenge for men’s and women’s basketball, which will begin as part of the 2023-24 season.

ACC and SEC teams will square off as part of the annual Challenge – one in men’s basketball and one in women’s basketball. Each one of the 28 games (30 starting in 2025-26) will be carried on an ESPN platform and each conference will host an equal number of home games. Matchups and game times will be announced at a later date.

Ha! I looked it up. Purdue rose 19 places to no. 5 in AP and 18 places to no. 5 in Coaches, needless to say the largest movements in both polls. They're the highest ranked Big 10 team. The next highest is IU at no. 10 and no. 8 respectively. It's early.

Irish take on Michigan State at home tonight in the Big 10/ACC Challenge. I'm not esp hopeful thqt we can win. Mich State has played a tougher schedule and as always is well coached.

Purdue ignored again.;)..travels tonight to Tallahassee to play FSU.

Big 10 down 5-3 at this point. Looks as if Michigan loss to Virginia was a close one. Also Wiscy lost a close one to Wake. The rest of the games have not been close.
