I carefully chose my words in the heading because we are talking about children, not athletes or students or the mythical student-athletes. The perversion of this concept is spreading rapidly. ‘There’s no rules. It’s crazy’: New money in NCAA recruiting leaves elite athletes ripe for exploitation (msn.com)
So what I take away from that article is that greedy parents pimp their kids for the money. Shocking.
The genie is out of the bottle. Now ABC and ESPN make a lot of money off broadcasting the Little League World Series. Using the same logic as was used against the NCAA why aren't these kids, just playing little league baseball getting tens of thousands of dollars? I said it before and I'll say it again, having college kids with thousands of dollars is going to lead to , school discipline problems, reduced effort in the sport and dissention among team members. I'm not so sure that the destruction of football wasn't behind the original laws in Cal.
When is the last time you heard an announcing team, a coach or a player even mention academics in passing. USC's QB made $2.4 million this year; what is his incentive to sit in a classroom? CJ Stroud made $2.5 million; has he ever seen the inside of a class at OSU?
Yeah that's the stupidity of all of this. All of the things that caused teams to be put probation and forfeit games.are.now.being used as.recruiting tools.
Yeah, but I think Kim dated more than one player. She was a groupie who didn't like football only football players. Or as the NCAA called her a "booster."
And here I was knowing that A&M would be on top of that list... I mean after all we did pay out $30 million for that #1 class...
