If it gets to the point (it may already be there) where schools are telling kids that if you come and play here we'll make sure you get $XXXX.XX, then the immediate impact will (is?) be that the rich get richer and poor stay poor. This all fits in with my prediction of a new organization of the richest 40-60 schools breaking away from the NCAA.

There was a time when I would have sold a lung just to attend Notre Dame. If they let me play football I would have thrown in a kidney. So I refuse to get upset about pimply faced 18 year olds coming and going. In the big scheme of things they don 't matter at all.

I'm trying to get excited about the upcoming season but it's just not the same anymore and never will be. I guess I just need to accept the fact that college football players driving around in Mercedes and Bentleys as normal and let it go. Hell, why worry about going to the NFL? They get rich while their in school. Student athlete right... it's a joke.

Tim, to be fair I am confident there are many gifted and talented individuals out there who are intelligent athletes as well. Most of us feel similar to what you have expressed in your post. Change is difficult for me due to my age. It appears that ESPN is going to lose all rights to televise The BIG TEN games! How is that for change, but it warms my heart.:)

    Don,

losing ESPN should make you happy as I have grown to totally dislike them tremendously lately. They just can’t seem to stay out of politics and “woke” crap. If I didn’t have to have them for college football I wouldn’t have them with my DTV package.

Freeman definitely made some good moves in building his staff. Easy to point to AL Golden as a big hire, personally I think he could be our best Dcoord in a long time. Also the return of Harry Heistand on the OL is also big, esp since he seems to be reinvigorated on the recruiting front.

But don't over look the value of James Laurinaitis as a GA helping with the linebackers. Here's a comment from Matt Freeman of Irish Sports Daily.

Notre Dame let James Laurinaitis speak today.

He's impressive. Very, very impressive. The linebackers and team are 10000000% benefitting from having him in the building.

Looking at the preseason Heisman candidates it's hard not to notice that we face 3 in the opener at Ohio State.

Not sure we've ever faced that level of talent, EVER. Sure we have seen our share of Heisman hopefuls from USC and other schools but just can't think of 3 on one team.

    CJ Stroud
    TreVeyon Henderson
    Jaxson Smith-Njigba

I believe our defense should be good this year, DL and LB should be outstanding, CB and Safety could be good but are unproven. The Northwestern kid, Brandon Joseph, is getting preseason recognition based on his play for Northwestern and if as good as advertised will make a big difference. The rest of the guys back there have to show me.

We do have the offensive tools, the defense remains to be determined. I am confident Coach Day is stressing not to read the papers and just take things one day at a time. You still have to play the game. Only time will tell.

Well the Irish have a new QB, no clear leader in the RB stable, new first year HC and almost entirely new coaching staff, playing on the road AT Ohio St stadium against a loaded team on both sides of the ball which all translates to me as a loss by at least 3 TDs maybe more. Hopefully they can keep it watchable after the first QTR.

With all the offensive talent in Columbus I think we'll see a revival of the Cooper Era "Basketball on Grass" offense!

The spread is 15.5 which I think reflects the new key personnel not only in key positions but on the sideline for ND . The Buckeyes have had many a slow start in the first week against teams in the past at home. The Irish will have to hope for that to prevail.

Good morning George, I have some bad news for you and your Irish fans. Just finished reading an article in the Columbus Dispatch, which indicates most all spots in the roster on both sides of the ball have already been decided. This is a first for the Buckeyes this early in the season. Slow starts are often due to new and inexperienced players trying to find their roles.:)

I think this is very possible. We are in a new era whether we like it or not.

    I have mixed emotions.

Thinnest position, first bad injury. Avery Davis went down with an ACL. Yikes.

Terrible for Avery, he was really showing potential and everyone was expecting him to have a great year and coming back for the 6th year was going to set him up to give the NFL a shot.

Great teammate, played any position that the coaches asked of him.
