....Fa a la a la a la la la.....or whatever that crap is.

    NU recruit backs out

Chris Perry, a defensive lineman from Keller, Texas, said he has reneged on his Jan. 9 verbal commitment to Nebraska and has instead informed Miami coaches that he will sign with the Hurricanes on Feb. 7. Perry’s decision to spurn the Huskers is regarded as a blow because he was one of NU’s prime recruiting targets.

However, Nebraska still has commitments from five defensive tackles for 2007, although Terrence Moore of New Orleans reportedly is now considering Alabama.

It really didn't make any sense to me that he left Miami in the first place. He was an early commit to them, and granted they finished the season weakly there was some turmoil with the coaching search. But in the end the guy who he wanted to play defense for before the season started ended up as the head coach. I think I posted that I was surprised by his commtment to Nebraska at the time you originally posted it.

I know Doc, but obviously a kid's word ain't worth crap anymore. If I'm lucky enough to have school recruiters come callin' on my kids, it'll be a different story then. If you're unsure son, tell 'em so.

It's worse now than it's ever been, AJ. These coaches have to continually recruit the kids right up till signing day or they'll feel unloved and look elsewhere. Of course it is somewhat of chicken/egg situations. If coaches would just stop recruiting other teams verbals then the problem would go away, but all coaches pretty much keep recruiting kids even after they verbal. The Gators had a ND verbal, Justin Trattou, for a visit last weekend and I don't think Charlie has cut off communication with some kids who have verbaled elsewhere.

I think football players should be able to sign LOI's in Nov along with all the other athletes in other sports.

As far as your son goes, recruiting for college golf is a little dicey. They only have 5 scholarships (total not a year) to give and there are a lot of young golfers out there who all are very good and not much to seperate one from another. If you are angling for a certain school and they haven't offered you risk the other schools backing off and going with other kids who will make the decision and in the end you can end up not getting the desired offer and the other offers have evaporated.

Weis actively recruits other school's verbal committments. He is right now after an Ohio kicker who has verbaled to Louisville.

Wasn't Perry a Miami commitment who changed to Nebraska after Miami lost a few games and Coker found himself on the hot seat?

Also, didn't Nebraska just "take" a commitment from another DT who'd previously been a commit to USF?
