Things moving fast now. SMU hired the Miami OCoord Rhett Lashlee as expected, and now Washington has hired the Fresno State coach, who I have never heard of before, Kalen DeBoer. Sounds like he'd be a Rugy Coach in South Africa. Wazzu removed the interim title to Jake Dickert, who went 3-2 and hammered the purple puppies in the Apple Cup. I assume he is vacinated. BTW just to remind you all Auburn employees including football coaches have to be vaccinated by Dec 8th. When that came up about a month ago Bryan Harsin wouldn't talk about his vaccination status and I'm sort of surprised the story died down to tell you the truth. But if he's coaching in the bowl game for Auburn he's vaccinated.
I can't believe it. I never thought that he would leave ND but it is all over the place. I'm shocked and disappointed.
If he's going its a pure money grab. There is no other reason a guy in his 60s goes from ND to a rebuilding job in a tough conference. I would be very disappointed too. So offer the job to Freeman and salvage most of your recruits. Bring in another coach and you'll lose more of them. ESPN is reporting it now.
Irish Illustrated just circulated an e-mail saying its a done deal. They say it will likely be announced tomorrow.
Let's see if he steals some recruits on his way out. I would go to Freeman first. If not him then Luke Fickell ?
So if ND poaches Fickell, will we have two playoff teams looking for new coaches to replace the ones the scooted out? Welcome to the f***ed up world of college football.
Let's not forget... this is how we got Kelly. I think he was undefeated or one loss heading to a bowl game with UC when he bailed on them. It's his M.O. I wonder if Kelly takes Rees with him. I could see that.
I have to say again, I am devastated by this turn of events. I thought the way recruiting was going and the trend for the program since 2016 that we'd win 10 games every year. He was set to retire after the 2024 season. I thought we'd have 3 more years of being relevant in the CFP conversation. Now I don't know what to think. That tweet is BS IMHO.
Terry, The answer is Freeman. He could take ND to the next level. Ten yrs ago I would not have said that but things have changed and it's not crazy to take a no HC experience coach now.
