So tell me what you all think about Kiffin. Has he matured enough to be a good coach consistently? He was a jerk in his earlier head coaching career and the way he acted during and when exiting Tennessee was abominable. Seems to have changed but is it true change or just surface?
Ed Orgeron is out at LSU. According to the article below, his buyout is $17.5 million. Ed Orgeron, LSU football are parting ways, per reports
Odd timing given that his team just beat a top 25 Florida. This must have been in the works already. 17.5 million isn't bad for not coaching, he must have Charlie Weis agent.
Louisiana must think they are the Federal government... the state is already facing a massive deficit, and now will add to it with paying the mumbling fat man while also writing a huge contract to whoever they lure in. I wont say "never", but I doubt Jimbo is a real candidate like some of the sites are saying. Yes he has a relationship with Scott Woodward, but there's nothing he can be offered in Baton Rouge he won't already have or get in College Station. His pay won't be an issue. Whatever he's offered will be matched and he knows it.
Yeah, it might be different if Jimbo had played at LSU instead of Salem and Samford, as well as being from West Virginia. He's making a ton of money at A&M with a long term contract. Facilities at A&M are as good as anywhere plus recruiting footprint for the Aggies is really good. No doubt LSU is a top 5 job, 3 different coaches have won National titles at LSU in the last 15 years. They have a stranglehold on most of the top talent in state, and they have a lot of talent in Louisiana.
Polls are out and Georgia is unanimous #1, no shock. Cincinnati is #2 again no surprise. OU has risen to #3 and Alabama is #4 with Ohio State finishing out the top 5. Big 10 has 4 top 10 teams with Michigan, Penn State and Michigan State to go along with Ohio State. They will start playing each other over the next 4 or 5 weeks so things will change. Big 12 has Oklahoma State to go with OU. If they can both run the table would set up quite a Bedlam game. I doubt Oklahoma State can run the table though. PAC12 has only 1 top 25 team. Oregon.
Purdue used to have the three stripes. My Dad was a Purdue grad. When I was a young kid in the early 50s, I was all about Purdue. I'd trace pictures of Purdue players with the three-stripe helmets. I was glad they didn't have those sissy wings like the Michigan helmets.
Not that I should ever doubt you Sid, but I did wonder if you'd been dropped on your head recently and were confusing Michigan and Purdue. But there is a helmet history site that tracks all the helmets for each school and dang if your memory is razor sharp! It appears that from '42 through '54 Purdue did have the ugly stripes. Purdue Also with that win vs Iowa Purdue (Iowa is their 13th) is in the top 5 of teams who have beaten an AP top 2 team. Six(6) of Purdue's 13 victories have been against Notre Dame (1950, 1954, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1974).
Lions Fire Moeller and Hire 49er Assistant Mornhinweg Moeller, who took over in midseason for Bobby Ross when the Lions were 5-4, was fired to make way for Mornhinweg after the team finished 9-7 and didn’t make the playoffs. Moeller had been given a 2 1/2-year contract when he took over for Ross, but his status became shaky when Millen--a former All-Pro linebacker with the 49ers--was hired by owner William Clay Ford to take control of all football operations.
