Did anyone else watch UCF and Boise State? UCF fell behind 24-0 but rallied to win 36-31. Fun game to watch. I did watch a good bit of Ohio State and Minn but mostly UCF - Boise State.
Didn't watch any of the other games Thurs night. But UCF came from behind and gave Gus his first win at UCF over a good Boise State team. Tenn got the win over Bowling Green in Josh Heupel's debut and UC Davis a FCS team and 22 point underdog upset Tulsa. Today's best games are likely UNC going into Blacksburg to take on Va.Tech and another Big 10 conference game Mich State vs Northwestern. In news...it seems that the B12 is going to invite Houston next week with BYU, Cincinnati and UCF also reported to be targeted. If they all go, who will the AAC target to replace them? CUSA and Big South teams?
Turns out that 71 yard rushing TD by Miyan Williams last night was a lark, as he ran to the wrong side of the field!
Va. Tech has looked very good so far in the 1st half, they have dominated UNC. Lead 14 - 0 with 3 minutes left in the half. Also apparently, Houston, UCF, Cincinnati and BYU are set to apply for B12 membership and will be accepted next week. They will have to pay 10M exit fee to the AAC and give them a notice of 27 months. Could they leave sooner? UCONN paid 17M and left sooner. BYU as an independent in football could join next year. They have to give notice to the WCC where they play the rest of their sports.
Mack Brown looked old and worn out at the end of the Va.Tech loss, but then I read that his younger brother passed away last week. That's bound to have taken it's toll on Mack. Maybe UNC can bounce back, but they sure didn't look great last night. Duke was schooled by Charlotte. I don't think they were supposed to have a good team, they were ranked at the bottom of the ACC in pre-season. I didn't watch the MSU/Northwestern game. But MSU has 22 transfers on their team so maybe that was a big infusion of talent for Mel Tucker. It's going to be incredibly hot in Austin Texas at kickoff today, somewhere close to 100 degree's. I hope those players are well hydrated and they have lots of fans on the sidelines to keep them cool. When I was a student we never played a day game in Sept.
I think that is a good move by the B12 and those four teams. If not careful the B12 could be destroyed by the loss of Texas and Oklahoma then being ignored by the other three conferences when they made their alliance. I think those conferences made a mistake ignoring the B12 and this move should move them back to parity or close to it with them. Wouldn't it be something if they made an alliance with the SEC to schedule games?
Well, I wasn't going to go to any football games this season, but my grandson wanted to go to one (he is 8), so I am going to the Southern Mississippi game with him.
Re: MSU it's pretty clear that Dantonio left the cupboard bare. The Spartans looked a lot better than the team that opened last season and lost to Rutgers while turning the ball over 874 times! NW on the other hand lost 2 first round NFL picks so it's not clear just how much improvement there's been.
Every analyst in college football was saying that the OU defense was for real this year. Penn State picked off Wisconsin in a defensive game.
Yeah OU's defense did not look good. Tulane had 2 consecutive fumbles in the first half. Would have been interesting.
Stanford goes to KState and gets beat 24 - 7. I wonder what has happened in Palo Alto? At one point he had a realty good program, they played tough physical football and David Shaw was considered one of the best coaches in college football. Of course it's just one loss but they seem to have lost their mojo in the last few years.
Oregon is in trouble at home vs Fresno State late 3rd qtr tied 21 - 21. Maybe looking ahead to the trip to Columbus. Longhorns getting ready to kick off in Austin. Alabama looks good vs Miami.
Longhorns up 14-3 late in the 1st half. I'll have to say that so far Hudson Card has been playing very well for his first action as the starter at QB. A little early to declare him the next Colt McCoy, but a nice start.
