I wonder if the money might dissuade some of these kids from transferring as fast as we might expect when they aren't immediately handed the starting job?
Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said that when he named the starter at QB, Will Levis a transfer from Penn State, the guy he competed with immediately told him he was going to transfer. That's the new normal.
The 4 Million Club. Andy Staples of The Athletic charted every game's viewership from 2015 to 2019, and there were 198 games that the viewership exceeded 4 million. He theorizes that is the motivation for the Big10/ACC/Pac12 alliance. To create more of these types of games, so that they can sell them to the networks and increase the payouts. Here's the breakdown. Setting aside the five split “reverse mirror” telecasts where two games were simultaneously sent to different portions of the country on ABC and the other game was available to each section on ESPN2, here is how the 193 single-game telecasts broke down… 58 games between either independents or teams from different conferences (including all five Army-Navy games played during that period) 55 SEC-only games 49 Big Ten-only games 13 ACC-only games 12 Big 12-only games Five Pac-12-only games One American Athletic Conference-only game (2017 South Florida at UCF) He breaks it down even further..by teams. Alabama and Ohio State and Michigan clearly own this category. Here's the top 10 Most games in the Four Million Club Alabama 35 Ohio State 31 Michigan 26 Auburn 17 Notre Dame 17 Florida 16 LSU 16 Clemson 15 Georgia 15 Oklahoma 14
Probably bigger news for the baseball team... which will have my interest. They are pulling in a lot of new players.
Is he likely to be allowed to play baseball in the Spring of 2022? That conflicts with Spring Football Drills.
AP preseason poll is out. No surprises Cincinnati is getting a lot of love though. They have a date with Notre Dame at South Bend, win there and not screw up after that and they could be the 1st Group of 5 team in the playoffs. Assuming ND doesn't devalue the win by falling apart. TEAM POINTS 1. Alabama (47) 1,548 2. Oklahoma (6) 1,462 3. Clemson (6) 1,447 4. Ohio State (1) 1,393 5. Georgia (3) 1,365 6. Texas A&M 1,223 7. Iowa State 1,160 8. Cincinnati 1,014 9. Notre Dame 1,009 10. North Carolina 99
They go to Bloomington the week before to play a pretty good IU team, those 2 games should they win them set them up really well.
A common theme this time of the year is that "Polls Suck", etc. But this guy at the Athletic has some data that says there is something about the pre-season polls that rings true. The national champion will come from the top six. Since preseason No. 22 Auburn won the title in 2010, only one of the past nine national champions — No. 11 Florida State in 2013 — has come from outside the preseason top six. The only national champion in the Playoff era to come from outside the top five was No. 6 LSU in 2019. In the past 50 seasons, the AP national champion has started in the top two 18 times and the top six 31 times. It’s come from outside the top 10 on 10 occasions — though only two of the past 18.
Not a big surprise, don't know what made him think that he could transition to TE after not playing football for awhile and never having played the position before that. He'll still go down as one of the great college QB and will no doubt be in the College Football HOF someday. The list of Heisman QB's who had great NFL careers is pretty short. Jim Plunkett won a Super Bowl, Paul Hornung was NFL MVP and HOF but not as a QB. Current crop Joe Burrow, Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson ..the jury is still out.
Wow, Gators tied at number 127 with Notre Dame, and last in the SEC. Guess we need our recruits and transfers to come though.
Penn State sits at #1 in recruiting right now, and the Irish are at #2. It's unlikely to end that way as both have 20+ verbal's while Ohio State and Alabama have 14. Once those 2 get their numbers up over 20 they will pass both. In an odd recruiting phenom Oklahoma has now had 3 of their highly rated WR's decommit. I don't know what the reason is to tell you the truth. They are loaded at QB, Spencer Rattler is likely leaving after this season but they have nothing but highly rated 5 star QB's sitting behind him. Also they are not changing the offense, Lincoln Riley is still going to be running an offense that scores and uses WR's a lot. Right now they do not have any WR's in the 2022 class, something is strange.
Uh Oh...The Athletic is reporting the Huskers are having NCAA problems. Nebraska football has been the subject of an NCAA investigation for months, a source close to the Nebraska athletic department confirmed to The Athletic on Wednesday. The Action Network was first to report news of the investigation. The league is investigating the program for improper use of analysts and consultants during practices and games, The Action Network reports. Head coach Scott Frost is also reportedly under investigation for his role in the violations. "The University of Nebraska Athletic Department has been working collaboratively with the NCAA to review a matter concerning our football program," athletic director Trev Alberts said in a statement. "We appreciate the dialogue we have had with the NCAA and cannot comment further on specifics of this matter.”
It's odd. There are single game tickets available for Tennessee, and Arkansas games in Tuscaloosa. Tennessee game tickets are never available except as a package. Anyone else noticing more tickets being available for prime games?
I haven't looked but it's not surprising. Although all the schools have said they are going back to full capacity, I wondered if the public was going to buy into a full stadium whether they are vaccinated or unvaccinated. We talked about going to a ND game this year and I told our group I wasn't quite ready to jump back into big crowds packed into a stadium.
