I saw some kid on Ohio State, I think, a defensive lineman yet to play a game was gifted with a fully tricked out truck that had to be worth north of $75,000.
It's a bit strange, Kirby got him from Alabama where he'd been their S&C guy by promising him on the field coaching (special teams). But all that has been said is he needs to deal with mental health issues. Don't know the guy but I hope he gets well.
Not really college football related but the youngest of Kirk Herbstreit's sons, Chase, will be a freshman at Cincinnati St. Xavier High. He'll be a freshman QB, Herbstreit lives in Nashville but will be renting a home in Cincy. St. X is one of the powerhouse programs in Ohio, son Chase is a QB. Herbie has a lot of sons playing football, his twins played for Clemson, one of them still does the other transferred to Ohio State where another son will be a freshman walk on TE this fall. He's going to be a busy guy trying to keep up with those boys! Chase must have some high end potential if the family is willing to move to Cincy so that he can play for St. X High. ___________________ Forever a student of the game, ESPN’s College GameDay institution Kirk Herbstreit has been keeping his eye on St. Xavier High School head coach Steve Specht's squads and the passing offense of coordinator Andrew Coverdale. It's a far cry from the triple-option Herbstreit ran when he played quarterback for the Centerville Elks in the late 1980s. The nation's premier college football analyst, however, has seen enough to know that’s where he wants his youngest son, Chase, to be. Chase Herbstreit, a freshman for the Bombers this fall, hopes to eventually become a state championship St. Xavier quarterback like Penn State's Sean Clifford, Wisconsin's Chase Wolf and current St. X starter Brogan McCaughey. Former UC quarterback Tony Pike, who has trained Wolf and McCaughey, now trains Chase. ______________________________ Ohio high school football: Kirk Herbstreit's son chooses St. Xavier
Here's a complete list of CFB teams, by the number of returning starters. Not surprisingly a lot of the elite teams are way down the list as they regularily lose a lot of players every year to the NFL. While a team like Toledo rarely has a player leave for the NFL before their time. So Toledo is bringing back 22 of 22 starters and is #1, while Alabama who is bringing back 11 of 22 returning starters is ranked 127th. Other teams at the bottom are Georgia, OU, Notre Dame, Florida and Ohio State. Complete breakdown of Every CFB Team’s Returning Starters for 2021. – Phil Steele
One possible mitigating factor is how many of those non-starters had significant playing time last year. I know in Alabama's case on offense at least, not many had significant playing time. We lost a lot of juniors and seniors to the NFL.
No doubt that the number of NFL quality players on the elite teams is what makes them elite. A lot of good teams will of course have players who will play on Sunday, but they don't have the same number of 1st and 2nd rounders in their starting lineups as Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State and Georgia, and LSU in 2019.
Walk ons get scholarships from Utah company. Built brands. Sounds like a way around the 85 player scholarship limit. If you have one of these deals you can bring in any number of players you want and somebody pays their tuition if the school can't.
What was the big surprise for me is what it costs to go to BYU, it's dirt cheap. 3K/year for LDS members and 6K if you are not LDS. That is a heck of a deal. I would have thought it would cost 40K and up.
Saw this earlier this morning. Right now I am not too excited about the possibilities. Of course, I tend to resist change as I grow older!
I wonder what the point of the alliance would be, scheduling? Couldn't be a new network arrangement, that wouldn't make sense for the BIG 10.
Per 11 Warriors.com, Quinn Ewers is now in camp and enrolled in classes for this fall semester. Let the fun begin for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
