Yeah, and if I was a manager I would request a check every time the opposing manager did. Just.what baseball needs...something else to.slow.down the game.

Well does this give the Marlins a better chance to win the World Series?

Astros on a 10-game winning streak and headed towards Detroit and former manager AJ Hinch. Tigers came to Houston back in April and swept us in a 3-game series. I would certainly like to see some big-time payback.

Right now, the Astros have the best record in the AL, of course baseball is a long season and that can change, but we are hitting and pitching at a high level. Alex Bregman is out for several weeks, but his replacement Abraham Toro has played very well. Kyle Tucker our RF who missed a week with a bad stomach bug returned last night and was 2-3, he's been trending up for the last 6 weeks.

Cubs pitchers combine for the 7th no hitter of the season in a 4-0 win over the Dodgers. 8 no hitters is the MLB record set in 1884. Dodgers had plenty of baserunners as the Cub pitchers gave up 8 walks.

I remember that very well Stu. Big outcry here in Houston, Bauer was a crybaby and jealous of the sucess of our pitching staff. How could he impugn the reputation of our future HOF pitcher who had a sterling reputation throughout his career. I guess it turns out that he was right in a global sense, that pitchers all over the league were and had been using "stuff" for a very long time. Whether he was right specifically about Verlander we'll never really know, and with Gerritt Cole his recent comments about the sticky stuff pretty much says he used/uses the stuff. Was Brent Strom, Astros pitching coach, a promoter of the stuff, again we'll never know. Astros staff currently is doing very well and none of them complained about the stuff or being checked. Don't know if that means we don't use it or we're super sneaky/stealthy about it.

This is where I really miss JO'Co, he'd have 3 or 4 paragraphs on the history of pitchers and substances!

Astros currently the best team in the AL, but the Tigers who are a mediocre sub. 500 team are 6-2 against us this season. Can't explain it.

Hector Santiago (Seattle) not happy with being the 1st pitcher to be ejected under the new scrutiny for sticky stuff. Says all he had was the rosin.

Per the league's new rule on inspecting pitchers for foreign substances, Santiago handed his glove over to be inspected by Cuzzi, who ejected him moments later. From replays, it looked as though the umpires were checking the inside of Santiago's glove.

"What we do is we go around the whole glove, feeling for anything that would be sticky or something," crew chief Tom Hallion said. "It was very noticeable, and then the rest of the crew inspected to make sure we were all in agreement. All four agreed that it was a sticky substance, and that's why he was ejected."
"What they told me was, you can't use rosin on the glove hand," Santiago said. "When I use rosin, I dab on both sides. The umpire said you couldn't use it on the glove hand."

Ejected Santiago: 'All I used was rosin' in M's win

I wonder if Vandy will go for the kill shot tonight and throw Kumar Rocker, he will be on 4 days rest while the Miss State kid, Will Bednar, will be going on 3 days rest and likely only to be asked to throw 3 or 4 innings at the most then bring on the bullpen.

Vandy has a tremendous advantage tonight and I do not feel the MS have much of a chance at game three.

Shohei Ohtani is having an amazing season so far, he leads the majors in HR's right now with 28 after hitting 2 last night and all while still pitching. He's started 11 games this year and has a 2.58 ERA in almost 60 innings. Can he keep this up is always the question.

Ohtani's incredible season continues, he's hit 31 home runs and leads the majors, and he is the 1st player in history to make the All-Star team as a pitcher and a position player. What ever happened to that guy who plays CF for the Angels, Mike Trout?

Joel remembers this....Look at the # of starts for that staff and the # of complete games, can't do that in today's game.

The 1954 Cleveland Indians won an AL-record 111 games in a 154-game season. They usually went like this:

    C Jim Hegan
    1B Vic Wertz
    2B Bobby Avila
    SS George Strickland
    3B Al Rosen
    LF Al Smith
    CF Larry Doby
    RF Dave Philley

Roto was spearheaded by Early Wynn (36 starts (20 CG)/2.73) and Bob Lemon (33 starts (21 CG)/2.72), followed by Mike Garcia (34 starts/2.64), Art Houtteman (25 starts/3.35), and Bob Feller (19 starts/3.09).

Heavy favorites in the World Series, the Indians ended up getting swept by the Giants 4-0. It was the Giants' last title in New York before moving to San Francisco for the 1958 season. They wouldn't win another until 2010, and Cleveland is still waiting, its last title coming (as I'm sure you remember) in 1948.

But this is really all that people remember.
