All in all a pretty good reffed game that obviously was pretty much unaffected by the refs. But...you guys would demand my comment I am sure if a major transgression occurred and there was one..sole....big missed call that could possibly have affected the game ultimately in a positive way for Fla actually.... Ginn's TD return.....from CFN "HOLD!!! HOLD!!! Ginn comes up with a great cut, get helped by a held jersey on a Gator player, rips off a 93-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff" I am sure all of you saw the hold on Reggie Nelson and he might have closed. But somehow I think if called the Fla team may not have responded as viciously as they did if this had been called.
You're right Stu. I wasn't going to say anything until I saw the comment on CFN that I posted. I came out of my seat at the time it happened but in the scheme of things and considering Ginn was actually hurt in the celebration of the TD the missed hold probably helped UF more than it hurt in a convoluted sort of way.
I want to watch the KO return again. It was a hold but I'm not sure it really impacted the play as Ginn was really motoring and I don't know if (even) RFN would have been able to catch him. Losing Ginn had to hurt the OSU offense .... as losing Harvin did UF's, earlier this year .......... and losing Caldwell hurt in 2005.
Not sure for certain that RN would have caught Ginn but he was making a move to close when he was held and that was all the speedy Ginn needed. Ginn was one guy who showed Fla type speed and he was gone after that. In any event all season long Brandon James had kicks called back for less clear infractions. I think the ref just didn't see it.
There most definitely was a hold, just wasn't called There most definitely also was a Florida TD that should have been overturned by replay, but again the PAC refs blew a call. I don't believe forcing Florida to snap the ball from the 6-inch line would have mattered in the grand scheme of things, but the kid's knee was definitely down before the ball hit the goal line...
Like always, there were some missed calls, some erroneous calls, some without enough indisputable evidence to reverse and the one about the player on the punt (I think) going out of bounds and coming back in. Now how many times does that get called and do you think it needs to be called in the NC game? I think the calls evened out last night but sometimes it seems as though the refs get to feeling left out and just have to make a call because it has to be all about them.
