That hurts ! Petrino put Louisville on the map. Another Larry Brown coaching carousel. In some ways you can't blame them because they are the 1st ones out the door. This is a setback to the Big East. I wonder if Brohm and several of his mates head for the exit to the NFL?
Petrino has had one foot out the door for awhile, he was interested in the LSU job when Miles took it and several others. I think after the last go around the Cardinal AD rewrote his contract and Petrino swore his loyalty to Louisville. I would imagine that Brohm will be considering going early now, unless they bring in somebody with Petrino's offensive accumen or maybe they elevate Brohms brother (QB coach) to the Head Coaching position.
Also I have to wonder how Phil Simms feels, his son Matt is a Louisville verbal. It seems like the Simms boys can't catch a break with their college selections!
Petrino really left Louisville holding the bag by leaving now...right between the Army All-Star game and signing day. Watch the unsympathetic vultures descend on Louisville's recruits. I hope Charlie is one of them... BTW- that article made me feel old when it referred to Atlanta Falcon President Rich McKay. I remember him very well. He's the son of USC coach John McKay and brother of player JK McKay. I saw him play in high school. In fact, I saw Rich McKay when he played for Bishop Amat's frosh team...
I'm not really shocked, but it certainly has to hurt Louisville. I guess the college guys will keep going to the NFL, but when you look at Spurrier, Carrol and just within this week Saban it seems the Colleges have an attraction also. Me, I love the college game and kind of like No Fun League for the NFL.
Somehow I doubt if the Irish will benefit from this, while I don't know for sure but I doubt Louisville has any highly rated HS Kids and I would wonder if many of them are academically qualified for ND. Fast look at Louisville on Scout.Com they have 11 kids, only 3 4 stars, 6 3 stars and 2 other kids. All of their 4 stars are on offense and I doubt if Charlie would be interested in any of them.
No doubt Simm's will jump ship. I used to be a fan of Phil's till I saw what he did with Chrissy. I wouldn't want Matt on my team even if he walked on. I just can't shake that me 1st attitude that they seem to portray.
Yeah, but Bama just broke the barrier for mid level Pro coaching salaries. If the $$$ were not there, he wouldn't love coaching in college so much  Still a far cry from the $8 million they pay to Holmgrum, but no doubt Bama has created trouble for the NCAA and the tax status of these athletic departments. If you are a big booster and you don't get a tax writeoff for your $ 1 million contribution to the athletic department, I guarantee booster $$ will dry up. That will hurt everyone !
LOL Atlanta might not be the prime job in the NFL but there are worse. Why it was only 1999 that the Falcons were in the Super Bowl. Compare that to the purgatory that is the Lions who have won, one playoff game since the Eisenhower administration.
Major Applewhite was contacted with regards to the Alabama OCoord position , which would have been a plum for him at such a young age (28). But I have read that Paul Petrino is moving to Alabama as the OCoord. There had been rumours that the LSU OCoord was going to reunite with Saban at Bama...wonder what happened there.
I'm not sure of Fisher's relationship with Saban but I read he was waiting on the possibility of getting one of the NFL jobs. FSU had offered him the OC position then pulled the offer. I guess once the NFL jobs got filled he reconsidered FSU and apparently FSU reoffered. I also heard he was angry that he didn't get the UAB job, so he may have not wanted to go to Alabama because of the Board of Trustees.
