Thought that would get everyone's attention! Don't worry, it's the '05 Baseball team, and that's not really what this is about.

In June of '05, my beau & I had been together ~1 year, and he was already thinking marriage. I'm a big foot dragger on that topic and had my heels pretty well dug in that we didn't even need to be thinking about that yet. But he knew there was a special diamond & unique setting show that would be in town that weekend. I was avoiding the topic like the plague. We were watching a lot of UF baseball at the time and they were doing really well at the end of the season. So at the Notre Dame game (http://www.gatorzone.com/baseball/boxscore.php?gameid=5307), after a slow start, UF started adding up the runs. He said something like if they score 10 runs we should go to the jewelry show. I said no, but ended up agreeing that if UF got 20 we'd go ... thinking I was safe. The scoring slowed a bit and I though I was OK. But a huge 8th got UF up to 19. Rut roh! Don was on the edge of his seat, and I was just about cheering for the Irish. Course ND was assigned as the home team so UF had one more shot in the 9th. Triple, then fly-out, runner-in ... 20 runs. Don jumped up like UF had just hit a walk-off homer and the few people left thought he was crazy.

So, I followed through and went to the show. Didn't like anything, too frilly and too expensive, but pointed out something in a regular display I thought was pretty. Turns out he went back and put it on lay-away, I guess confident eventually I'd change my mind.

So, to gloss over the non-sports-related part of the story, a year later at the Fort in St. Augustine, he proposed with that ring, I said yes, and we got married just before Thanksgiving.

So, I guess in the end it's good that the poor Notre Dame pitchers had their worst game ever. And with planning all the wedding crap this fall, that explains my woeful in-attention to the pick-em contest.

So Merry Christmas form the newlyweds! And Go Gators - whip the Buckeyes this Saturday and on the 8th! Is that too much to ask for a wedding present?

    Congratulations to the happy couple.

We are headed on our 44th year and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Don't be a stranger around here and bring in your husband, we can always use a few more Gators!

Congrats! Feb 20 will mark 24 years for Cindy and I. She hasn't regretted a minute of it. I, on the other hand... have not regretted one second of it!

    Congrats Wendy!

Your husband is a lucky guy married to a woman who is good looking, professional, really funny and rabid about sports and dogs.

I hope your hounds have allowed him to join the pack without too much acrimony.

    Congrats Wendy!

Castillo de San Marcos (? I think) is one of my favorite places in the US....it's always a must stop anytime we're heading down the east coast of FL...Old St Aug is good stuff. Last year we took the kids there and had dinner at a neat little Mexican joint right across the street from the fort. The margaritas were outstanding! Highly recommended....big 2nd floor balcony with a live mariachi.....great stuff.

I'm just hoping your Gators take it easy on my Buckeyes b-ballers and footballers.

Wow, thank you everyone. The real congratulations goes to all of you who have been married many years. Anyone can throw a party ... not many are still celebrating that party 20, 30, 40 years down the road!

Gip, great quote! I think I'll steal it for use on future 'congrats' cards.
MCG, glad you like the dress. I had mixed feed-back when I picked it. I didn't want to go for the extra-poofy wedding float look, but couldn't really pull off the mermaid look either.
Bill, congrats on #44, sounds like there will be many more.
Terry, I s'pose I could invite him into this world too. I'd just be sure to warn him not to jump in trying to convince everyone how much better the Gators are than pretty much anybody. :)
Don, thanks, and I'll always remember that ND game when Don jumped up like we won it all when it was just another pile-on run.
Sid, congrats on #44 for you also. Who's Oden? ;) I only watch Gator basketball to watch, I don't begin to follow other teams and players.
JO'Co, thanks, and yes the whole day went amazingly well.
George, thanks, that's very nice of you to say, but I could have told you that comment was going to get you in trouble.
Cindy & Tom, congrats on your 24 years.
Bobda, well aren't you being nice. :) Yes, I remind him how lucky he is all the time. Just kidding, actually, he always tells me how lucky he is without prompting. Whata sweetie. And the dogs love him - he stuffs them full of treats and special toys so they are big beggers now. :x
BuckeyeT, yup, that's the place. It is a wonderful place and special city. I haven't been tot he place you mentioned, but I think I know where you're talking about. As far as UF vs tOSU, I think we split the two games. Course I haven't decided which team takes which game, though. And also, if UF wins Saturday, I'm going to have to change my pick to a sweep! ;)
Stu, that cruise sounds like fun. We went on a special Thanksgiving Disney cruise for our Honeymoon. There were quite a few large family groups. It's a great way for everyone to get together and have a wonderful time with no one having to cook and clean for everyone!

Thanks again, everyone, and Merry Christmas!!

Oops, got my messages to Sid & Don swapped. Swap them back and they make more sense. Congrats on only #37 anyway!

But, hey, that gave me an excuse to make post #1000!

Ha ha. At least I've done something useful today. I helped Wendy get her 1,000th post.
