Terry it's not me making public statements that admonish only one party.... it's Trump doing just that when I agree with you it's afflicting all of us as one nation and it is happening in places like Florida, Pa., and Ohio who all have GOP governors. Why does Trump have to be so damned divisive??
The reason is easy to see.... he is always first and foremost worried and concerned about what political points he can capture..... not in unifying our nation in a crisis.

As far as leadership I think Trump has completely lost it:
"On Sunday, Trump tweeted his thanks to the National Guard and the job they did in Minneapolis Saturday night before calling for the National Guard to be used in "Other Democrat run Cities and States."
As of Sunday morning, approximately 5,000 Guard Soldiers and Airmen were activated in response to civil disturbances in 15 states and the District of Columbia, with another 2,000 prepared to activate if needed, according to a statement from the National Guard Bureau of Public Affairs.
Elected officials on both sides of the aisle said on Sunday that the President should instead focus on unifying the nation or decline to address the country at all.

So why don't these Democratic leaders demand riot by mail. All these clowns can line up to riot in person but they can't line up to vote?
Just what statement does looting a Target store make? Come to think of it, they did make a statement, the only thing not taken were the work boots.

No one is suggesting sympathy for rioters.
But when the fire is burning out of control you don't throw gas on it..... and politicize every crisis that comes along.

And when a fire is burning you don't just stand there and let the fire burn for a long as it wants. You do if you want the fire to vote for you.

Biden condems the violence, unlike Dave who says just let it burn.

I like what former ND women's basketball star, Briana Turner, had to say about the situation. I've edited out the images and stuff that came with the text I copied from her Twitter Post. Which I've linked below at the end.

I’m an only child raised by two black law enforcement officers (56+ years combined) I had numerous instances growing up where a parent had to suddenly leave bc duty calls. But at the same time that didn’t stop the convos about police brutality. Didn’t stop endless convos about...

...racial injustice within this country. My parents are black AND police officers. Off-Duty though I do worry about my dad. He’s a 6’6 dark skin black guy, no different looking than how people would physically describe #GeorgeFloyd People don’t know he’s an officer...

... people don’t know his wife is an officer, people don’t know his daughter is a professional athlete. Not only do I have to worry about him on duty, I worry what people think off-duty as well when he is out by himself. I say this to say being against...

    ·

...police brutality does not make you anti-police. I’m for police departments holding one another accountable, I’m for better racial bias training, I’m for better training in engaging with protestors. I’m not for fearing for my parents lives on and off the clock...

    Brianna Turner
    @_Breezy_Briii

...So this is why I speak out, bc I care. Because I want better. Because I’m tired the same scenarios replaying in this country. I don’t want for police brutality to feel normal. I don’t want racial injustice to be America’s tag line. Im tired of all of it & I hope you are too.

I'm afraid Terry that you will not see anything remotely similar to that coming from what I have said.
I suggested a calmer approach... one that acknowledges the injustice that occurred but does not forgive, condone or otherwise coddle violence as a response.
Otherwise the point is moot now anyway.... I hear that Trump today is stoking the fire anyway..... vowing to fight that fire with fire being the diplomat and leader that he is. Oh.... and by the way politicizing the trouble yet again by blaming all of the violence on the radical left.

This is more in keeping with my thoughts:
The message from Obama, who previously decried Floyd's death last week when he said the killings of black men at the hands of police "shouldn't be 'normal' in 2020 America," follows a weekend that saw an escalation in protests nationwide.
"Let's not excuse violence, or rationalize it, or participate in it. If we want our criminal justice system, and American society at large, to operate on a higher ethical code, then we have to model that code ourselves," Obama wrote in an essay on Medium.

Well, the violence certainly isn't coming from Trump's base.

And PS...I agree...you didn't say "let it burn."

OK you didn't say "let it burn"....but you also don't seem to want anybody to confront the looters and other violent people, you want to let them be and try to talk to them nicely, while they throw molotov cocktails and destroy property.

There have been a number of incidents where peaceful protesters approached Police and the Police responded by agreeing with them and marching with them or doing things that reciprocate the peacefull approach.

    Biden has a soln.

“Instead of standing there and teaching a cop when there’s an unarmed person coming at ’em with a knife or something to shoot ’em in the leg instead of the heart is a very different thing,” he said.

LOL... I guess a knife doesn't qualify as being armed!:rolleyes:

Terry I agree with aggressive management of aggressive people when the time calls for it.

I do not agree that the president should sit there in the Whitehouse on his ass and say incendiary remarks and tweet inciteful threats to further stir up the violence. And that is the result when all you do is talk about cracking some heads and shootin when the lootin starts etc etc and you never truly discuss what happened in Minneapolis....that an unarmed handcuffed black man was slowly murdered on the internet while three other policemen stood by and watched. To show no remorse and willingness to address such a horrific sight but instead just dare the violence with reciprocal violence is not a show of leadership.

Trump calls Floyd death 'grave tragedy,' decries violent protests in Florida speech
The President left the White House and inspected the damage done by the "protesters" to Lafayette Park and the President's church. Naturally the media said it was a photo op (because it differed from their previous criticism that he was hunkered down in a bunker.) At first he agreed about the needless tragedy and felt it was terrible but at some point it's his job to enforce the law against the thugs that the left so fondly embraces.

Dave, I believe what he meant was when the looting starts everything gets out of hand. Retired Police Captain Dorn, an African American man was shot and killed by looters in St. Louis. Where is the outrage in the press?

"Former Secretary of Defense James Mattis on Wednesday castigated President Donald Trump as "the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people" in a forceful rebuke of his former boss as nationwide protests have intensified over the death of George Floyd.
"Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people—does not even pretend to try. Instead he tries to divide us," Mattis said in a statement.
"We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership. We can unite without him, drawing on the strengths inherent in our civil society. This will not be easy, as the past few days have shown, but we owe it to our fellow citizens; to past generations that bled to defend our promise; and to our children."

Expanding on Mattis's observations. Trump is the first President whose campaign was illegally spied upon by the corrupt preceding administration. The illegal surveillance and implantation of spies continued after he took office. A special counsel was appointed on fraudulent and unverified claims that precipitated a 2 year judicial body cavity search that included investigation of a porn star Stormy Daniels in connection with Russian collusion (?). And when the malicious investigation into the Russian collusion ended, the souvenir pen impeachment began. So the question is Dave, do you kiss the ass of someone who's constantly shitting on you? Of course you would.

Unite what? Who is dividing the country? Trump was working on a country that would increase economic opportunity for everybody. How can you unite a country where one side IMMEDIATELY starts working on a coup to remove the standing President, and the other side voted him in because they were absolutely FED UP with what was going on in this country. How can you unite a country where the media is so filled with hate and scorn? How can you unite a country where one side twists "Make America Great Again" into a white supremacist conspiracy? Oh, yeah, Obama could put out very statesman like speeches and words...but how much unifying did he do? How does General Mattis suggest that Trump unite the country when Mattis himself compares Trump to the Nazis. What a load of crap.

“When I joined the military, some 50 years ago, I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution. Never did I dream that troops taking that same oath would be ordered under any circumstance to violate the Constitutional rights of their fellow citizens—much less to provide a bizarre photo op for the elected commander-in-chief, with military leadership standing alongside,” Mattis wrote.

I must have missed the part where troops were ordered to violate Constitutional rights.

He goes on to contrast the American ethos of unity with Nazi ideology. “Instructions given by the military departments to our troops before the Normandy invasion reminded soldiers that ‘The Nazi slogan for destroying us … was “Divide and Conquer.” Our American answer is “In Union there is Strength.”’ We must summon that unity to surmount this crisis—confident that we are better than our politics.”

“The words ‘Equal Justice Under Law’ are carved in the pediment of the United States Supreme Court. This is precisely what protesters are rightly demanding. It is a wholesome and unifying demand—one that all of us should be able to get behind. We must not be distracted by a small number of lawbreakers,” he added.

So General Mattis feels that the riots and deaths are caused by a small number of lawbreakers...geez. Kumbaya everybody.

We ARE being divided by those who would conquer us...but it ain't Donald Trump.
