According to the Austin American Statesman, Colt McCoy is still not cleared to play or practice. With the transfer of Jevan Snead to someplace to be determined that leaves only Sr. walk-on Matt McCoy to take snaps for the 'Horns. There is a guy, Sherrod Harris, who is a redshirting freshman but I don't think Mack would blow a whole year for a some what meaningless bowl game. If Colt can't play the only other QB on the roster is Quan Crosby who hasn't played QB since high school and that's been awhile since he played pro baseball for a couple of year before comming back to college. Just read that Scott Brantley, former Gator and Buc LBer ..... and uncle to Ocala Trinity QB John Brantley, has stated on his afternoon radio show out of Tampa that his nephew has experienced a change of heart and is going to sign with UF in Feb 2007. Any of you UTx folks hearing/reading anything on the Texas sites about this?
Gaterz... <t>That will send them over the edge just thinking about it as McCoy seems a bit brittle now. I doubt Brantly changes his mind. Where is he going to play at Florida with Tebow and the stud HS QB that is committed to them? Don't see it.</t>
Scout has a story up and has him now listed as a UF commit as of 12/20/06. Gotta say I'm a little surprised but not overwhelmingly so since he lives just 35 or so miles from Gainesville and is from a family with UF ties ..... and was coached in HS by a former UF QB.
It's been expected for quite awhile now, he started wavering when Colt McCoy was having such a great year. While naturally Longhorn fans would prefer to have him honor his commit, we know how that works having been on both sides before (Snead was a UF commit and Ryan Peraloo was a UT commit before LSU0. However, a lot of guys are pretty high on John Chiles as the next Vince Young. Chiles is electric with the ball in his hands, and has a cannon for an arm. The downside is that he, like VY before him, needs some polishing up as a QB. Sherrod Harris who is also a highly rated "athletic" QB is still on the roster and will likely be the #2 guy to Colt McCoy next year. I don't think Colt is brittle, but he did take 2 pretty big hits at the end of the A&M game. He should be just fine by next fall. Terry
Hey Terry, I just talked to Jim Bob Cooter. Since it is another UT, he has agreed to start for you in the bowl game!
Thanks Tom, but we have a whole passel of them McCoy boys and you know how they don't cotton to strangers.
