Is defense optional in the state of Texas? What the hell happened to SMU? Florida Atlantic was missing their HC and something like 5 starters, yet they still smoked SMU. That one surprised me. Good for the kids though.

    Actually Corey... it kinda is.
Since all the 7 on 7 stuff took over, they move most of the athletes to the O side. It's why A&M has struggled finding decent LB's in state that can play in the SEC.
All the Texas high schools turn those kids into stand up DE's who have no idea how to play in the trenches.

    Scott,

I wondered about that. I have long believed that the 7 on 7 recruiting/hype machines that go on in California have actually hurt football in the West. It's good to see that I'm not the only one thinking that/seeing that in their area.

There is a bit of a push here in the South to get away from the near year round 11 on 11 and go to the 7 on 7 passing leagues. I'd like to mention that the teams who have made that move recently have all struggled. Could be coincidence? Could be that flag football is just not a good substitute for the real thing. :)

That FAU offense that destroyed a decent SMU squad, was coached by Charlie Weis Jr. I wonder if Willie Taggert will retain him as the OCoord?

I don't quite get the scoring. There have been 9 games, I picked 5 correctly and have a % of 85.2? My math tells me that's .55 %.

Here's something interesting. This years SEC attendance is the lowest since 2001.

Southeastern Conference football is as popular as ever. Five of the 10 most-watched teams in the country in 2019 came from the SEC, with each of those teams — Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia and Florida — bringing in more than 38.5 million television viewers during the regular season.

Two of the three most watched regular-season games were played between league opponents — the Game of the Century II between LSU and Alabama brought in 16.64 million viewers, and the Iron Bowl between Auburn and Alabama brought in 11.43 million. The only other game that measured up was Ohio State-Michigan, which attracted 12.42 million, according to Sports Media Watch. The SEC Championship Game between LSU and Georgia was the most-watched conference title game at 13.7 million.

But the conference’s football stadiums, overall, were not as full in 2019 as they were in 2018. In fact, average SEC home football attendance this season was the lowest it has been in a long time.

2019 SEC home football attendance drops to lowest average since 2001

You might be in trouble. Not only is our best DL sitting this one out, we lost our #2 RB due to undisclosed reasons. We have ONE scholly RB now for the bowl game.

I read an article the other day about this family that had been going to Alabama games for something like 30 years. Just so we're clear, those pre-Saban years were pretty lean. This family stuck with the Tide, but can no longer afford the season tickets to go. So they aren't going anymore. I think we're starting to see that a lot around the country, at least with some of the more successful programs.

My guess is that boomers own a great majority of the season tickets As age related issues cause them to give up their tickets, I don’t think you will see the younger generations filling their gap as they grew up in the Stub Hub era and seem not inclined to pay a big PSL fee plus outrageous ticket prices for 6 or 7 games when there are usually only one or two good home games a year. Michigan seems to think their fan base is a giant milk cow with a thousand teats. I wonder if articles like the one Terry posted might be causing some anxiety in the AD’s office.

which brings me back to the future: 8 team playoff. 5 major conference champions and 3 wild cards. Make the season count. Make the season fun. Stop the pageant.

Corey, what's worse is that the family lost their good seats to some kind of box seats (corporate money) conversion and were offered seats around the end zone at a hefty required donation increase. I think I told y'all before that the university requires a fee to even be on the waiting list now. I think the NFLization of the college game will eventually ruin it for me. Free agency has already started.

    KP,

I am so glad you read the same article. I was struggling to remember all the details, I just remember being so angry for the family. I do wonder what will happen when this current business model runs smack dab into the younger 'non-Boomer' generations that will simply stay home? Something has to give here.

Corey I think the games will become all corporate/TV events. The "crowd" will all be behind glass in skybox type seats.
