Is there a standard size of rink required for the NHL, College, etc? For some reason I remember that back in the day when the Euro's were first comming to the US that one of the adjustments was the physical style of play and also the smaller rinks. I was thinking that at that time in the NHL that arena size was up to the franchise, sort of like baseball.
Sorry for the delay, Terry. The insurance company who employs me did some downsizing last week. While I managed to avoid the bullet, things at the office are kind of like the fall of Saigon right now leaving me distracted from my responsibilities as a SB poster. In answer to your question: National Hockey League (NHL) - Canada & USA Official NHL rink size 85' x 200' (25m908 x 60m960) with 11' (3m353) radius corners. International/Olympic Ice Hockey The official Olympic/International rink size is 30m x 60m (98'5" x 196'10"). In college hockey, several teams in the WCHA play of Olympic-sized rinks: Denver, Minnesota, Colorado College, and, I believe, Alaska Ankorage. I believe in the CCHA, Michigan Tech's rink is Olympic sized.
Thanks Bobda, sorry to hear about those poor people who aren't going to have a very merry christmas. Hopefully they didn't cut back on your dental plan! Terry
Every downsize/layoff I ever saw or experienced came right before Christmas. Companies do what they have to do for tax reasons and it hurts to even watch it. I somehow managed to always dodge the bullet too, but there were years when it was close...
