Awww! How cute! Haha! George, I remember that I was 10 years old and already a NL fan, but I really liked the Indians that year, so I cheered for them in the WS. Alas, they were swept 4-0 by the Giants behind Willie Mays and others.
Dodgers dodged a bullet to the heart. Pirates All-Star closer Felipe Vazquez has been arrested for molesting a 13 year-old girls that he met online. He's being held without bail, by the judge, so that even more felony charges can be added... As you may recall, the Dodgers offered that Pirates any of their top three catchers for Vazquez, but were turned down. The Pirates demanded: 1. Either Will Smith or Keibert Ruiz, the Dodgers top catching prospects. AND 2. Either Gavin Lux or Dustin May. AND 3. Either Joc Petersen (33 HRs) or AJ Pollock The Dodgers tried not to laugh when they turned down this offer. Now the Pirates have nothing; not even a relief pitcher.
Carl Yastrzemski's grandson, Mike Yastrzemski, who plays for the giants, hit a HR in Fenway last night. From Twitter:
Baby Yaz is a baller. I wish the Sox would have kept drafting him. They drafted him out of HS, but he went to Vanderbilt instead. He had a great career at Vandy, I guess the Giants just beat the Sox to the punch. Either way, he's a very good major league baseball player. Unrelated: I watched the Dodgers on Youtube last night. That game seemed to take forever with all of the experiments that the Dodgers are running with their pitching staff. Still, despite the scrimmage attitude, the Dodgers beat the Rays who are in the wildcard fight.
Ham Handed; The Indians lose Jason Kipnis for the season with a broken hamate bone...the same bone that cost them Jose Ramirez. Add to that Tyler Naquin (knee), Corey Kluber (broken arm), and Brad Hand (tired arm). Amazing that we keep hanging in there...though odds of catching Oakland or Tampa keep dwindling. Odds of catching Minnesota virtually gone now. And we're on track to win more games than last year, when we won the Central Division by 13 games.
How are the Cubs hanging close, seems like they have had a lot of issues in the last month. I think Sid even said they were barely hanging on in the race. Meanwhile in the AL the battle continues for #1 between the Yankee's and the Astros. Both are closing in on 100 wins. With the Yankee's no doubt buoyed by Severino's sizzling return as ESPN put it.
Relax, AJ. The Cards are the best of the 3. Starting tomorrow, the Cubs and Cards play each other 7 of the last 10 games of the season and the final 3 games. It's conceivable - not likely but conceivable - that 3 NLC teams could be in the playoffs, with the two WC teams both from the NLC. The Nationals, Mets, Brewers, and Phillies will have a say in that. The Cards clearly have the edge. The Cubs have lost Anthony Rizzo. Bryant is playing hurt, and the relievers are no better than BP pitchers. The next week and a half is going to be so ugly, I'm hiding my face in my hands so I don't have to watch.
A couple of milestones for the Astros, they got their 100th win last night one of the few MLB teams in history to have won 100 games three seasons in a row. The last team to do it was the Yankee's from 2002-2004. A total of 6 teams in history have now done that. The winning pitcher was Gerrit Cole who became the 18th pitcher since 1900 to record 300 strike outs in a season. He also extended his streak of 10 strike out games to 7, which only Chris Sale (2015 and 2017) with 8 and Pedro Martinez with a 10 game streak in 1999-00 have longer streaks. Magic # for the Astros is now 2.
Dodgers using Sept to get ready for October. Interesting read on what's going on out there in L.A. Dodgers Hope September Shuffling Pays October Dividends
I don't know if you've watched them since they clinched, but I watched their game on Youtube vs the Rays. It was literally run like a pre-season scrimmage. There was no flow to the game. If you aren't a baseball man, it would be real painful to watch.
Bobda! In my best Elvis....Thank ya, thank ya vewy much. Btw, I never want to see Martinez close ever again.
AJ my golfing buddy who is a Cardinals fan says he wants the Dodgers, not afraid of them. Thinks the Cards can take them. What do you think?
