I just got my stuff to join the AARP and receive a free bluetooth speaker. My question, "is joining the AARP worth it?" Serious question.
Corey, we joined when we were eligible but dropped our membership several years later. It didn't work for us. Maybe others have a different perspective.
We are members but don't use it very much. There are lots of discounts and various offers. Their magazine, when I bother to read it, actually has some interesting articles. I think the answer to your question would be to look at some of the benefits/discounts and decide if you would use them. The membership certainly isn't very expensive.
Been a member for several yeaars but not planning on renewing. Really cannot think of any AARP offers that I have utilized during that time. They are a mighty lobbying group and really can bring the wrath of a thousand hellhounds upon any politician who disagrees with their policies.
I have been a member for several years but cannot really tell you of any benefit. They occasionally have good discounts on hernia trusses and hearing aids though.
AARP is just another left-wing scam. They're the stooges who rammed Obamacare down our throats and made it a crime not to buy insurance. I belong to the conservative alternative to AARP. It's called AMAC: Association of Mature American Citizens.
AARP is a little left wing for me...I have thought about dropping and joining AMAC. As far as Obamacare, it was all about the money...AARP's members were overwhelmingly NOT in favor of Obamacare and it's cuts to Medicare...but the AARP makes big bucks out of selling Medigap policies. So they ignored their members. In exchange for Obamacare making big cuts to Medicare Advantage plans...forcing many seniors to consider Medigap plans (which is AARP's golden goose) AARP agreed to lobby congress heavily to pass the bill. AARP's Medigap plans also specifically got some exemptions...most notably from the pre-existing conditions thing, caps on insurance companies executive compensation, and limits on administrative costs. As I understand it.
I was going to post what Stu did but he did a much better job. AARP has some discount agreements with merchants but I don't miss them I find that senior discounts and AAA seem to cover some if not all of them.
