:?: I received an email from an old friend that I hadn't heard from in a long time that had the following suggestion: To defeat email worms, you create a phony email address called AAAAA@AAAAAAAA.com This prevents the worm from emailing anything using your regular mailing lists and it alerts you to the fact that a worm attempted to do this. Is this true? Or did a worm attach itself to his mailing list and mail itself out? .................JO'Co
Sounds pretty goofy to me. A good anti-virus program is a better idea...I asssume you have one. McAfee warns me of suspicious "worm activity" whenever I send an identical message out in a short period of time (like when I send photos out to family members, etc.) and gives me the chance to stop it. However, I am just a nerd...not a 'puter nerd.
Never heard of this. Like Stu, I suggest a good antivirus program (I use Norton Antivirus) and keep it updated. Norton has "Live Update" that updates the virus definitions in the background automatically.
On my desktop I subscribe to Macafee and it updates automatically. Unfortunately my desktop is kind of out of order right now. My laptop which I am using right now is an Apple and they don't have as much trouble with worms etc. At least I've never had a problem with it.
Another option is Mozilla Firefox for your browser...works great and since I started using it I have had zero adware/spyware problems...I was getting 6 or more per day with Explorer.
That's it...you can get Mozilla Thunderbird too...it's a good email program and also very secure. I'm not sure you can link it to PDA's and stuff like you can outlook, though.
