I'm sure the Dodger Dog will miss this guy... "The last couple years, I didn't work hard because I still have a contract to go. Now I think I'll work hard more than any year in my life."Yasiel Puig
Please don't listen to Yasiel. He's like Jimmy Piersall or Donald Duck. He's probably like that when he's alone in the bathroom too. Baseball has always had a few of them around and it always will...
Harper has now made it abundantly clear that he wants to play in Los Angeles. The Phillies will give him everything he wants and more. His hesitance to sign that deal and come back to the Dodgers willing to take less money and a shorter contract is a big green light for the Dodgers... Jumpin Jesus on the cross Dodgers, SIGN THIS GUY!
The Harper contract is nuts. In some ways crazier than Machado's. And before anyone suggests that The Yankees pioneered stupid contracts with Rodriguez, neither of these guys can compare to him at the same age. Not even close. So while A-Rods contract was ridiculous, these two are unfathomable.
As a Cubs fan, I always am concerned about the Cards. They made some shrewd under-the-radar moves in the offseason, as they always do.
Mike Trout reported re-signed by the Angels for 12 years and $430 million! That works out to $36 million per season. He certainly is the best player in the game by a wide margin but I wonder if he'll ever see a World Series from the dugout.
A week or so ago there was an article that the Astros had picked up Alex Bregman's option on his rookie deal for about 600K or whatever the min was they had to pay. He expressed some disappointment and I thought why would they do that, he's a dynamic young player with leadership written all over him and he loves the Astros. So why low ball him just because you can. OK fast forward to yesterday and they have reached a big contract extension worth 100M dollars over 6 years. Now that's how you treat a young rising star like Bregman...pay the man.
Justin Verlander gets a huge payday with his 3 year contract extension that added 66M in guaranteed money to his contract. Verlander said this won't be his last contract, he's 36 so he's planning on pitching into his 40's. I can't see that myself.
Opening Day Power Rankings...AL East is going to be really tough. 1. rSox 2. Astros 3. Yankees 4. Dodgers 5. Brewers 6. Cubs 7. Indians 8. Braves 9. Nationals 10. Phillies Cards??? MLB Opening Day Power Rankings: Who is No. 1?
Bit of Trivia, this is the first year that MLB has not had a single player who played in the 20th century on an opening day roster. Adrian Beltre and Bartolo Colon were the last 2 players who played in the 1900's.
