"...but then again ND is absolutely used to going into the lion's den and kicking arse." There's always a first time I guess because they sure haven't done that this year.
You're really serious aren't you?...we're talking about a team that travels more than any other team in the country and has played anyone, anywhere, anytime...and established itself as the premier football program in the country over the years... And you gotta post something like that???
stu If playing in bowls not located in the midwest is an issue ....... why does the Big-10/11 accept tie-ins with bowls in the south and west? Why not go with the Motor City, Music City (closer than Orlando and Tampa) ..... or start bowls in the twin cities or Indy?
Gaterz, since you ask who I'm rooting for I'll put it this way: I almost always root for the SEC team in a Bowl game because I feel in the long run having the SEC strong is good for the Gators and I am also from the South, although by immigration from the north by my parents many mango seasons ago. But I will say this, that due to the Notre Dame fans on this forum I have come to respect them and their program very much. And one of my dreams is to join one of their annual game gatherings in the future while they are still doing them. So I haven't really made up my mind whether to root for the SEC or to pull for Notre Dame and my friends here on Skybox. So it will probably be a gametime decision!
Gaterz, Did you not read the part of my post where I said that bowls will always be played in warmer climates...particularly the bigger bowls...and that we just have to live with it. Yeah, right...the Motor City Bowl is gonna be huge...let's put the BCS Championship game in the Hoosier Dome (or whatever they call it now.) I'm just looking for a small acknowlegement, which I doubt will ever happen, from one person south of the Mason-Dixon line, that it might be a small factor that gives us a teeny, weeny disadvantage.
Stu The Sugar Bowl is in an NFL stadium. The Outback Bowl is in an NFL stadium. The Orange Bowl is in an old NFL stadium. The Gator Bowl is in an NFL stadium. The Peach Bowl is in an NFL stadium. So .... why can't those folks who don't like/want all bowl in warmer climates "produce" a bowl in a northern location, especially an NFL domed stadium? Heck, for that matter .... since the NFL plays outdoor games "up north" in late December and early Janyuary, do these "northern" bowl games really need to be indoors? Bill Understand you dilemma. While I would like to see the SEC do well in all bowl games, I'd also like to see Galen Hall do well in that Tampa game.
Yeah, let's set one up in Minneapolis...they have a dome and everybody knows what a tourist trap that is in January.
Go for it !! For all those midwesterners who want to a relatively "local" bowl game .... it will be great. Fans of the "visiting team" will enjoy a great winter holiday.
Stu, ND is overdue for a big time win and I think the Irish fans will admit that. That is the only thing lacking in the Weiss era.
It funny, but that being overdue for a big time win is interesting. Because we got some big time wins, we were supposed to go 0-6 to open last year and instead we crushed a ranked Pitt team on Nat'l TV to open the season and then went to the Big House and beat a top 5 ranked Mich team. Now I understand that because neither Pitt and Mich ended up having great seasons that those wins have been devalued. But they were Big Time wins at the time we played. And the win over So.Cal at South Bend was taken away from us by a lousy spot at the goal line and an illegal play on the next play. But I understand why it's not a big time win, because the Trojans got away with it. However it is true that since then the big game with OSU, Mich and USC have overshadowed anything good the Irish have done. I hope that we beat LSU of course, but they certainly have the type of talent on both sides of the ball that may extend our misery in bowl games. Our OL has been a problem all year and it's only the fact that Brady is so tough and durable that has allowed us to overcome the sacks he's had to take. But they also have the type of Big play recievers that have killed us vs OSU/UM/USC. So I'm not very optomistic. Terry
I'll give you that win over Michigan last year. I forgot that UM was highly ranked at the time but it did become a little tarnished as the season wore on. In any event I believe Irish fans will not think that highly of this season if ND loses by more than 10-14 points to LSU. Interesting that if UF loses by more than 10 to OSU we won't feel that way because of the SEC Championship we have to go with it. It would take a blowout loss of say over 21 points in a game we are never in to really tarnish the season for Florida. I don't think that has a chance of happening.
White noise, Terry. We ND folks know the real story, but you can't expect non-followers of any team to remember - or even be interested in - what happened beyond the last major turn of events, which for us was the Fiesta Bowl. I think that's generally true across the board.
"you can't expect non-followers of any team to remember - or even be interested in - what happened beyond the last major turn of events," Hence....UF is in the title game>
