Here is Part 4 of the Larry Scott/PAC 12 saga: https://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf/2018/11/closing_the_door_on_the_pac-12.html So, remember that time Larry Scott said Dixon interfering in officiating decisions was found to be an isolated incident? As you could guess, not so. Followed by more elite Larry Scott arrogance:
Kes, your AD spoke out about where Wash State ended up in the bowls. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/25437942/washington-state-cougars-athletic-director-decries-perception-pac-12-football
Yeah, he and Leach were a bit displeased. I read into Pat Chun's "thanking" of Larry Scott's efforts as a veiled dig at him for his "help" in the matter. I think Pat (been on the job less then a year when he replaced Bill Moos) walked a pretty good line between sticking up for the team's accomplishments without trying to degrade those teams that were ranked ahead of them. This whole deal with Larry Scott is so surreal. Just imagine, Pat Chun is the AD at WSU, and he's having to take the lobbying effort on himself because the conference commissioner is deafeningly silent in campaigning for one of their member institutions. Unbelievable. Of course, Larry Scott is having to answer to a whole other slew of incompetent P12 ref arguments after the P12CG BS with Utah...Whittingham was PISSED. And that's one bad dude to have coming after you. Quite a few Cougar fans were disappointed after yesterday, but most saw the writing on the wall after they tumbled 5 spots subsequent to the loss in the Apple Cup under blizzard conditions as compared to the rankings of some of the others when they lost. So, at least we had some time to adjust before the final nail was driven home. In the end, the Alamo Bowl is a great result compared to where the Cougars were anticipated to be, with almost all experts predicting anywhere between 3 and 6 wins, with some lucky bounces along the way. I'll take 10-2 with a great matchup with ISU coming up. Go Cougs!
Kes, Your coach's comments regarding the present playoff system are great. https://mobile.twitter.com/nucfootball/status/1069580545946832897
You can say a lot of things about Leach, but he is not wrong in this. I think 64 is too many, but if EVERY OTHER SINGLE LEVEL OF FOOTBALL, from the NFL down to peewee, then why can't D1A??? My opinion has been the same for a very long time: I prefer 8, but I would take 16.
KP, I had heard that traditionally, the first place team plays at the closest venue to their campus. Seems to me that the Tide would rather play in a stadium closer to their campus that seats 35,000 more fans. So I guess that the committee doesn't defer to the wishes of the No. 1 selection, they just ship them wherever.
Gipper, I'm sure Alabama would prefer not to play close to their opponent's home, I just don't think that Alabama gets to chose. It makes sense that the CFP process would try to avoid giving any team an advantage if possible.
These numbers don't really mean much as it's ND's choice how they schedule most of their games, except the 5 ACC games that they are obilgated to play every year. Still interesting. It would seem like it's a good training ground for the NFL where teams travel extensively during the season. Also a fair number of cold weather cities in the NFL, just like South Bend ..so another reason why playing at ND preps you for the NFL! Travel miles for the top six teams: ND- 12,551 miles Bama- 3878 Clemson- 5265 Oklahoma- 4903 Georgia- 4489 Ohio St- 4589 ND traveled 400 miles less than Georgia, Bama, and Ohio St combined.
Tua's little brother's team got blasted last night in the state championship and he was playing hurt. I like his attitude and look forward to seeing how well he does in college.
The upside is that there's no way you have anyone coming in and expecting immediate playing time. Auburn has a situation in which they've got like 4+ guys and then Bo Nix coming in. I won't be surprised if Nix is the day 1 starter. I'd be shocked if he's not the starter by midseason. Speaking of Auburn... did you see they totally botched the redshirt of super star RB Asa Martin so they actually wound up burning a year of his eligibility without actually using him as a feature back? It would appear that there's no one on staff there who can count to 4!! hahahahahaha
Corey, we actually have Taulia Tagavolua and Coach Bryant's great-grandson Paul Tyson. Both are highly rated and will compete with Tua and possibly Hurts. Should be interesting. Saban is so highly organized that I would be surprised if a redshirt was burned this year without it being part of a large detailed plan.
I'm aware and have seen both. They will both be great QBs, but I don't see either challenging Tua or Jalen (if he's around) for PT next year. I'm still having a giggle at Auburn's ineptness.
Corey, you're probably right. They may not compete for the starting position next year however Hurts started as freshman and Tua created his legend as a freshman. The next year one of them will start and one won't. Two 5 stars???
