Totally agree, Bill. When the Soviet Union collasped, Bush and Jim Baker quietly and effectively guided without bloodshed Eastern European countries under Soviet control to form independent countries and sucessfully monitored that none of the thousands of nuclear weapons that the Soviets produced fell into the hands of a rouge nation or terrorist group. That was a time when things could have turned catastrophic but did not due to their efforts.
Interesting how an event can change history. Bush was shot down near the island of Chichijima during WWII. The Book Fly Boys mentions that he was picked up by an American ship before the Japanese on the island could get a hold of him. Those airmen who were shot down and taken prisoner on that island were killed and some eaten by their captors. Bush survived for another 3/4 of a century.
