Evening games are pretty much over except for the West Coast. Clemson...tough win, but a win. I think I heard that BC lost their starting QB on the first series. ND solid win over bad FSU team. If you wanted to witness comically bad officiating you'd have to have watched this game, this crew needs to go back to High School. Longhorns almost choked away another game, had a big lead and then let Tech back in the game and it was tied at 41 with time winding down, but Sam Ehlinger threw a neat TD pass to Lil'Jordan Humphrey who made a great catch and an great effort to score. Big Jordan was proud! LSU wins vs bad Arky team Georgia gets a solid win at Auburn Utah lost their starting backfield and still had enough to beat Oregon. Ga.Tech beat Miami...Hurricanes having a bad year. I'm watching USC/CAL now.
There was much less chaos this weekend than I had anticipated. 8 ranked teams go down, 4 of which were upsets to UR teams (ranking is CFP/AP): - #11/#12 UK lost (to UR/UR 5-5 Tenn) for their 3rd loss - #14/#22 NCSU lost (to UR/UR 5-5 WF) for their 3rd loss - #16/#18 MsSU lost (to #1/#1 10-0 Bama) for their 4th loss - #17#17 BC lost (to #2/#2 10-0 Clemson) for their 3rd loss - #18/#24 MSU lost (to #10/#8 9-1 OSU) for their 4th loss - #21/#32 Iowa lost (to UR/#31 6-4 NW) for their 4th loss - #23/#16 Fresno St. lost (to UR/#33 8-2 BSU) for their 2nd loss - #24#27 AU lost (to #5/#5 9-1 UGA) for their 4th loss Four unbeatens still remain: UCF (9-0) Clemson (10-0) ND (10-0) Bama (10-0) Ten 1-loss teams remain: Cincy (9-1) OU (9-1) WV (8-1) UM (9-1) OSU (9-1) UAB (9-1) Buffalo (9-1) Utah St. (8-1) WSU (9-1) UGA (9-1) P5 conference bowl eligible teams ACCA: 4/7 eligible, 1/7 needs one more win, 1/7 needs to win out, 1/7 not going bowling ACCC: 4/7 eligible, 1/7 needs one more win, 1/7 needs to win out, 1/7 not going bowling B12: 4/10 eligible, 3/10 need one more win, 2/10 need to win out, 1/10 not going bowling B10E: 4/7 eligible, 2/7 need one more win, 0/7 needs to win out, 1/7 not going bowling B10W: 3/7 eligible, 2/7 need one more win, 1/7 needs to win out, 1/7 not going bowling P12N: 5/6 eligible, 0/6 need one more win, 0/6 need to win out, 1/6 not going bowling P12S: 2/6 eligible, 3/6 need one more win, 0/6 need to win out, 1/6 not going bowling SECE: 4/7 eligible, 2/7 need one more win, 1/7 needs to win out, 0/7 not going bowling SECW: 5/7 eligible, 1/7 needs one more win, 0/7 need to win out, 1/7 not going bowling Teams that still have a path to represent their division in their CG: ACC: Clemson vs. Pitt/UVA B12: OU/WV/tu/ISU, pick two for the “B12CG†B10: UM/OSU vs. NW P12: WSU/uw vs. UU/ASU/UA SEC: UGA vs. Bama
It's an effort to pronounce the initials 'WSU' in winky-eyed reference to the party roots of WSU by associating it with 'Zoo U', which itself ties into the well-regarded animal sciences programs at WSU. A lot of administrators hate it, and the president about 15 years ago banned it from all official gear. I think that ban has been lifted since, but I'm not sure about that.
Leach's hiring of Tracy Claeys to be DC turned out to be a shrewd and very smart move. WSU lost to Claeys coached Minnesota in the 2016 Holiday Bowl in a defensive struggle but Claeys was fired shortly thereafter over player misconduct that eventually was never prosecuted by the police. When the former DC for WSU left in early 2018 to coach the Buckeyes' defense, Leach quickly snapped up Claeys and the Cougars defense has played well in crucial games this year. The Gophers struggles this year under Fleck versus Claeys success at WSU has been a subject of several articles in Minnesota newspapers.
I can't find it now, but there was a so-coug tweet that basically said "We are WSU. We are 8-1. And we call timeouts before the first snap of the game." For those that didn't watch the game, WSU received the opening kickoff and after lining up for their first play of the game, called timeout before snapping the ball. That has to be the most Leach/Coug thing ever. Or maybe the response was more so: none, as if it was any normal timeout. I have never seen a Coug team so relaxed, even when Falk was running the offense. Ridiculous and greatness.
Don - since when have administrators/teachers known best? Bobda - this was the subject of much discussion when OSU snatched up Grinch. Many felt this was actually a possible upgrade. With.all the staff and personnel turnover, I cant think of a single position that is not better-coached this year. Claeys had defended well against WSU, and there is the probability that having him inhouse has improved Leach offense.
I watched the 1st half of the USC/CAL game and with USC up 14-0 at half I thought they'd cruise to a win in the 2nd half and went to bed. I was shocked to get up today and see that they lost. Heat has to be getting at the very least warm for Helton. Not as warm as for Bobby Petrino who was fired today at Louisville. No doubt there will be a lot of speculation on Brohm leaving Purdue for Louisville. He played there so it's a natural. I'm not sure why though he'd take that job right now, he's got Purdue in a good place and Louisville is a dumpster fire. Of course if he want's the job and the money is right it's one of those things that you don't know when the job will be open again. They could theoretically hire somebody who would turn it around and coach there for a long time.
ha ha ha...Zach Smith is cementing his lack of a future in coaching...I think he's been drunk posting on Twitter. He's going after Tom Herman out of the blue I think. Saying he has proof that Herman cheated on his wife. It's pretty bizzare. https://deadspin.com/zach-smith-is-having-another-meltdown-on-twitter-1830371884 AP and Coaches poll no changes in the top 10, first time since 2009 that no top 10 team has lost a game over the weekend.
Brohm or Bust is the title of the ESPN article on the coaching search at Louisville. It's going to be expensive to make the move. Petrino is owed 14 million, Brohm has a 4.4 Million dollar buy out if he leaves before Dec 5, and 3.3 million after that. I can't imagine that he would leave unless the deal is big enough for him to cover that and to make a pretty penny as the new coach at Louisville. http://www.espn.com/college-football/insider/story/_/id/25247966/jeff-brohm-next-louisville-coaching-candidates-bobby-petrino-firing
I'm a little surprised about the firing of Petrino, but then again, not really. I thought they'd give him this year to fire the DC and clean house a bit, with next year being the year they'd need to make or break. They lost quite a bit of talent that covered up some of their shortcomings. Personally, I don't know why one would leave Purdue for Louisville, but then again, the guy did go there so who knows?
ESPN Power Index after Week 11. So it's way different than the polls or the CFP committee. Don't know what these guys are smoking. 1. Alabama 2. Clemson 3. Georgia 4. Michigan 5. OU 6. Ohio State 7. FPI is a predictor, not really a ranking. (It's a computer generated index) It predicts how you will do going forward, based on what you've done so far. (at least that's what it says) I thought it would have the teams with a higher chance to win out near the top, but apparently that's not the main output. I find it interesting because it predicts A&M at 7.5-4.5 with a 51% chance of winning out (with LSU being the game), but then predicts them at 9.4-2.6 with only a 42.4% chance of winning out. Meaning: the program is giving the Ags a slight nod over the Kitties in our game in 2 weeks. We gonna slobberknock those coon-assed cajuns!! BLEAUX TIGERS!
Yeah that thing has slighted us all year, so I don't worry about it too much. If the Irish win out, they will have proven more than enough to get in. Now, we just gotta win out It's always easier said than done. I will be interested to see how A&M does against LSU. I mean, LSU's resume looked really impressive at one point in time, but now, not so much.
Corey, it really has no bearing on anything, especially the playoff. The Irish certainly control their own destiny... probably even with a loss, assuming it's not a "bad" loss. The A&M/LSU game should be a war. Their offense is just like always... run based with a game manager at QB. I don't fear him, even with our weak secondary. For once... they will not run the ball on us. AT ALL. So... I'll take my chances with Burrow trying to beat us. Their defense is salty... no doubt, but if we can score mid 20's on Bama and Clemson, I think we can eek out enough to beat the Kitties, especially at night at Kyle.
Scott, I'm anticipating the game, much the same way you are and I think you guys can do it. I think a lot of it will get down to how much pressure you can generate on the QB. I think you'll stop their run.
