Don't know if this link will work, but here goes. From the Twitter feed of Notre Dame Football. https://twitter.com/NDFootball/status/1060698487543791624
Not surprisingly there are lots of opinions on the Green Jerseys, I don't really care one way or the other. Reportedly the players went to Kelly and asked to wear them. So that alone makes it OK for me. That video, a parody of the Rudy scene with Dan Devine, was ok with me as well. Kelly haters jumped all over it of course, but was just something the players came up with so again I'm just fine with it. Kelly's press conference yesterday was odd to me, as he was very obtuse in answering questions and his body language was also very odd to me. Clearly from all reports Book isn't playing and I don't blame him for not stating it. Coaches all the time say things like "it'll be a game time decision" ...sometimes that is true but sometimes it's just to keep the opposition guessing about who will be playing. Again can't do that in the NFL, but it's pretty common in college football. Weather is going to be really cold Sat night with wind chill in the teens according to one report I have read. I know most think the cold weather is to the Irish advantage, but at some point it's not to anyones advantage. Irish Men defeated Chicago State handily last night, they had 10 players in double minutes, that's a lot. Chicago State is not a good team. I watched most of the 2nd half and our young players had some good moments and Sr. Elijah Burns who hasn't played much in his career looked really good. But really this was more like an exhibition game so not much can be taken from the win. Irish Women open their defense of the Nat'l Title tonight vs Harvard. Harvard has a young lady on their team, Madeline Raster, who was a 4 year starter at South Bend St. Joseph's HS and grew up watching ND women's basketball. Marina Mabrey our Jersey Girl will be out with an undisclosed injury as will Danielle Patterson. Should still have plenty of fire power to handle Harvard. This team has a lot of star power. All 5 starters are on the Wooden Watch list for player of the year, pretty impressive.
If we can run the football we should be fine. Cold weather will help. This FSU team has all kinds of issues.
Irish Men's Hockey heads to Ann Arbor for a Frozen Four rematch with Michigan. Irish are 4-3-1 ranked #6, the Wolverines are 4-3 ranked #14. B1G Hockey right now has #6 ND #7 OSU #8 Penn State #14 Mich #16 Minn #20 Wisc Minn Duluth is #1 and Minn State is #3 ....shocking that Minn has some good hockey!
I'll be there with my son. I've been in the stadium many times with wind chills in the teens or single digits, but I was younger then. :? Brian (my son) was on the 1993 team as a walk-on. Between the first and second quarters, they're recognizing that team on the 25th anniversary of the win over FSU. He'll be on the field for the brief ceremony.
3 words Sid...Irish Whiskey Flask! That was a great team '93 that Brian was a part of, that BC loss still hurts.
Sure does. I was there, high up, close to the 50 on the visitors side. We went ahead with less than 2 minutes left in the game. BC moved the ball downfield at will. We had a bad angle on the field goal and had to look at the refs for the signal. When they raised their arms, our hearts sank.
Really going to be cool tonight, light dusting of snow! Irish women basketball handled Harvard handily last night while Hockey lost to UM 2-1.
Hard to imagine a better first half for the Irish. We got a couple of turnovers, Brandon Wimbush played well and has 3 TD passes his receivers made great catches on all 3 and Dexter busted a long TD run. Defense has been good, they have one long drive. 32-6 at half. Didn't have that as the score in the pool!
Wimbush doing all he can to keep FSU in the game in the third quarter. Throwing into double coverage. Throwing sidearm through the pass rush. He simply does not see the defenders.
It's clear that Book is much better than Brandon. I'm glad that Brandon is gong to get the win, and except for those picks has played a pretty solid game. Those TD passes were good throws, granted his receivers made great catches but still Brandon put them where they could make those catches. Dexter has had a great game, over 200yds rushing. Defense has been good. Game is now over 42-13 Final. Good win, I'd have liked a few more style points and thought for sure we had a good shot at getting to 50 but those 2 picks hurt. Congrats to all the Seniors!
Wimbush made a few mistakes, but the defense minimized their impact. The Irish really just had their way with FSU and it was a great win to close out the home slate.
O line looked really good tonight. In the second half after the Wimbush picks, we just ditched the passing game and ran over the Noles. The 4 game suspension might have been a good thing for Dex. He still looks fresh as a daisy.
that's a really good point about Dexter Williams. Hopefully, ND is able to land some big time talent at RB to deepen the pool for next season.
That was not your mother's FSU, that's for sure. But the Irish wasted no time putting this one to bed. I said if we could run we would be OK but I never saw 300+ yards on the horizon. Wimbush did what he could and led the team. It was his usual stat line... asub 50% completion % and two picks. He has three TD passes on incredible receptions and his running definitely gets him out of a lot jams. I am convinced that he simply does not see coverage. The defense may be the best Irish defense I have seen, certainly in the top 3. They have consistently set the tone for each and every game this year. Weird stat of the game? Jerry Tillery played every play on defense and had a blank stat line. I remember seeing him all night. Was I alone? 8)
I would agree that this is one of the best defenses in the post-Holtz era. I don't think though that I would call it an elite defense, watching Alabama against LSU and MSU that is an elite defense. It could be be design though, as it does look like Lea plays a bit of a bend don't break style most of the time and only gets aggressive in spots. Unlike Jon Tenuta coached defenses that start blitzing you when you get off the bus. The OL had a good game, certainly in the 2nd half when they really pushed around a good DL for FSU when they decided to not throw anymore passes after Brandon's 2nd pick. In the first half who ever was play DE on Eichenberg's side of the line beat him inside and outside, but they didn't actually get to the QB. It's clear though that Dexter has finally gotten it and with his "fresh" legs is playing up to his full potential. He's even a good job pass blocking. Kelly has been effusive in his praise for Dexter.
