Yesterday in Nashville last week's National Defensive Player of the week... Vosean Joseph of Florida (vs. LSU).... was disqualified from the game with Vandy while sitting on the bench and doing absolutley nothing. He had one unsportsmanlike penalty which he did draw on himself earlier for a peel back block but his second unsportsmanlike penalty.... kicking him out of the game..... came when Florida's entire bench drew the same penalty. I would think the SEC office should get to amending this dumbass loophole in the rules immediately.
Personal fouls actually have a '2 strikes and you're out' type of backbone. That brawl at midfield came after the Gator player cheap shot the Vandy player and was subsequently ejected for targeting. It was a vicious hit and was intentional. Jesus, the two coaches almost came to blows over it. That was not a good look for the SEC yesterday. Anyway, both teams were hit with Personal fouls, justifiably, and unfortunately for him, that was his second personal foul of the day. He put himself in that situation when he picked up the first cheap shot. The absolute worst call of the day was the personal foul call instead of an ejection against Alabama's #99 who threw 3 punches and put a knee in the back of a Missou OL right in front of the ref... who clearly saw it, he penalized it!
After thinking about this a little, I don't know how else you are going to handle it. There is no way the refs could figure what players were involved in something like that, so it goes on the whole bench. Which to me seems like the right way to enforce the rule logically. That your player who had already had a unsportsmanlike penalty has a gripe with his team mates not the rule. Again, to seperate him from the rest of the guys who deserved the penalty would have taken a lot of time and video to identify the players who deserved and those who didn't participate. It's the only logical way to go. If you want to say that players shouldn't be disqualified for unsportsmanlike penalties even if they have multiple ...well I don't agree with that either but that seems to be the only argument.
Joseph's first PF was not for a peel back block. He earned it on this thug WWF impersonation: https://mobile.twitter.com/TrainIsland/status/1051160179255984129/photo/1
Yo're right Bobda and I'm glad you showed that.... the peel back precipitated the near brawl and Joseph was not involved in any of that. In the video it appears as it did to me when it happened yesterday that the running back threw his arm around Joseph and was almost equally responsible for them both crashing to the ground and Joseph was upset about that aspect of the call when it happened.
Sorry, you're once again living in "Dave's World." He picks the guy up, one hand around his waist and the other in his crotch, lifts him higher, and slams him head first into the turf. The Vandy guy doesn't "throw his arm" around him but rather just comes out and grabs his shoulder trying to keep his balance while being picked up and flipped over. Equally responsible my ass.
Lol, dammit Dave I watched most if not all the Gator game and that PF made Vince McMahon jump out of his chair at watching it. It was not a shining example at the purity of college football and believe me I’ve followed a team who excelled at WWF for years... Then he showed his ass being escorted off the field to the point of belligerence... I’m not seeing an innocent choir boy being violated here..
The Vandy ball carrier used his right arm to carry the ball. He was lifted off the ground by Joseph. As Joseph was starting to slam the Vandy ball carrier to the ground, the Vandy player reached backwards to grab Joseph's shoulder in what appears to be a desperate and unsucessful attempt to protect himself. The ref watching the play threw the flag immediately after the play. Obvious PF.
For a moment there, I really thought Mason and Mullen were going to come to blows. I give Mullen the reach on the tale of the tape, but Mason is built like a brick **** house and could pound away on the inside game.
I get it Corey..... in your class no one gets to go out and play until the one who threw the spitball at teacher fesses up.....
When a personal foul is called on the team then everyone on the team now has one PF. If you already had one PF, now you have two PF's and you're out. This doesn't happen very often so we are just not used to it. MCG, are you against the two PF's and you're out rule?
The only think I disagree with is calling a personal foul on the whole team then kicking a player out who may not have even participated in that incident. Not going to argue here but I do not think he is a thug. Emotional and plays hard but he'll be back.
Bill, I don't think this guy is a thug, I think he just got caught up in a very unusual situation. If the whole bench cleared then that is why it was called that way.
Bill I can't say he's a thug either and didn't intend that he is. His PF was pretty obvious and then his actions at being ejected were not very pretty on the way to the locker room. But as mentioned emotions run high as does competition so it's best to leave it at that.. I did appreciate both coaches embracing at the end of the game in a lengthy conversation. Supposedly both are pretty tight and friends so I would expect this to pass by fairly quickly...
The rule is fine for when an individual personally commits two personal fouls. However... just sitting on the bench and keeping your mouth shut does not warrant an ejection under any rule or circumstance.
Bill I just don't see how they could spend the time to review film and figure out which players on the sideline were deserving of the PF and which weren't, so they always give it to everybody on the sideline. It's unusual but it's the only way they can do it. Now in basketball they don't have very many players, so they can go to the monitors and see who left the bench which is an ejection and guys who didn't leave the bench are good to go, but with more than 80 guys and coaches and assistants both regular and student along with various people who have passes it's just too much in football.
I was watching that game... I didn't see ANY players sitting on the bench when the coaches were jawing so stop acting like a saint was sent to the locker room. Simple solution for the kid who was ejected: Don't get an Unsportsmanlike penalty in the first place, and you're not out in the odd case that your WHOLE TEAM gets one. BTW Dave, it's NOT a dumb rule. It's in place to make sure the officials have control.
He may not have been on the bench but he clearly showed restraint and remained in the background during the near fracas: https://www.gatorcountry.com/swampgas/threads/vosean-during-the-brouhaha-pic.415163/
