Kelly is blessed this year with a defense that is good enough to cover his 4th quarter conservatism. First when we went ahead by four he goes for the meaningless extra point rather than the two point conversion that would have protected us against two FGs or at least made Pitt kick an extra point to win ( remember, their kicker was having a very rough day ). Then with over four minutes left and first down on the Pitt 48 he tries to sit on the four point lead. He gives Pitt the ball back with around two minutes left and asks his defense to bail him out yet again. That is the difference between the Irish and the three teams in front of them.
