My big complaint so far about the playoffs! Defending World Series Champions, with the 2nd best record in Baseball...are relegated to the early games and the rSox/Yankees get the prime time games. grrrrrrrrrrrr....
Must be some sort of twisted karma going on for the Braves and Indians getting eliminated on Columbus Day.
What a humiliating night for the Yankees. Starter Luis Severino apparently did not know when the game was scheduled to start and stepped foot on the field at 7:32 for a 7:40 start. Then he got run out in three innings. Boston put on a small ball clinic and the Yankees mailed it in from the 4th inning on evening pitching a catcher in the 9th. Their fate lies in the hands of CC Sabathia tonight who will show up on time at the very least.
Well...my poor, small market Dollar Store Brewers will meet up with the Neiman Marcus Dodgers for the NLCS. Here are the combined players salaries of both teams for the past few years: Dodgers Year 25-man Opening Day 40-man Year End (rank) 2018 $187,318,213 2017 $241,149,167 $253,633,893 ( 1) 2016 $249,781,668 $252,551,634 ( 1) 2015 $271,608,629 $291,056,310 ( 1) 2014 $229,335,934 $257,283,410 ( 1) Brewers Year 25-man Opening Day 40-man Year End (rank) 2018 $ 90,964,571 $ 2017 $ 63,061,300 $ 78,827,919 (30) 2016 $ 63,908,300 $ 71,808,702 (30) 2015 $104,237,000 $ 98,089,079 (23) 2014 $103,697,967 $110,299,643 (15) It will be a dog fight but the fight will be between a champion Westminster show dog vs a three-legged skinny shelter mutt with half its fur missing found in the woods in Kentucky after being abandoned by its abusive moonshine-still-operator owner I am resigned to the fate that we will be swept. I am just hoping we can lose by less than 7 or 8 runs in each game and are able to maybe score 1 run off the great Kershaw.
I'll be interested to see what the Dodgers do with Yellich who is the best hitter on the field coming into this game. He missed the triple crown by what, two points?
LOL...Bob's comment about the Indians and Braves losing on Columbus Day! Astros during their tear it all down and become a minor league team years from 2011 through 2014 were way down their in salaries. But with our current roster having matured and rookie contracts gone for a lot of the stars, we are only behind the free wheeling/spending rSox in opening day salaries at 172M. There are more contracts coming up, it will be tough to keep some of these guys no doubt. I think our core of Springer, Correa, Altuve, Bregman are going to be paid to stay. Verlander and Cole have a couple of years before the put up or leave hits, Verlander at his age might not get that big money, Cole if he keeps pitching like he is will get a monster contract.
Bobda, with those comments, you out-Holtzed Lou Holtz. Re: Braves and Indians eliminated on Columbus Day. LOL!
So Brewers vs Dodgers and Red Sox vs Astros for the World Series. I have to admit I am rooting for the Brewers and the Astros.
The Yankees powered their way to 100 wins this year but the warning signs of doom started appearing as early as the All Star break. When a five inning effort is considered a quality start then you are begging for a tired bullpen down the stretch and the Yankee bullpen with the exception of Dellin Betances was out of gas since Sept. 1. Infield defense was poor all year and it reared its head in the playoffs. When you have a catcher as poor defensively as Gary Sanchez then you have a lot of four out innings and frustrated pitchers. All those home runs were fun to watch but as we all know good pitching trumps good hitting in October and the Bombers are horrible when it comes to scratching out runs and contact hitting. The best team won, no doubt.
Just as Bobda shows loyalty to his Big 10 brethren, I am showing loyalty to my NLC brethren. Go Brewers!
Bobda, I'm not on board... - Great analysis George and I think the Yanks can solve those problems in the free agent market or with trades. - Nolan Arenado of the Rockies is a free agent. Many consider him the greatest 3rd baseman of all-time and he just might be. We have Turner, so we won't even put in a bid. Turner is our captain. - Manny Machado is a free agent (so is Kershaw) and we can't keep all these people, because of the salary cap. - We're loaded with catchers and Yasmani Grandal is now a free agent too. Most of the best young players we have in the minors are catchers, starting with a kid named Ruiz. If the Yanks go after Grandal, I'm sure the Dodgers won't get into a bidding war to keep him, they just bring up the kids. - Brian Dozier is also a free agent now. The Twins once demanded BOTH Bellinger and Seager in trade for him, which the Dodgers turned down...
Q <r>I'm on board Bobda...as you know it's my only hope of getting some tasty Wisconsin Cheese!!! <E></E> <br/> <br/> Not to mention an Astros/Brewers WS would be all Central Timezone, I had to stay up late way too often watching the Astros beat the Dodgers! <E></E> <br/> <br/> Also what is a better match than Milwaukee Beer and Houston BBQ/Pecan Pie!! <br/> <br/> The Beer and BBQ WS. <E></E></r>
I am not trying to sway the opinion of any SB member who is still trying decide whom to root for in the NLCS. But, on one side, is a team from the heartland, the Great Midwest, a virtuous, wholesome land populated by hardworking and humble citizens who are truly the salt of the earth: The other team is from Babylon:
