I really liked what I saw from Dan Mullen's staff on Saturday. They were patient and yet still threw in effective wrinkles in the offense at the right times to get things moving. The team overall seemed very disciplined and well coached.... and most importantly highly motivated. It reminded me of when in 2005 I was siiting in the stands when Urban Meyer sprinted out on the field down toward my goal line to get the refs attention about reviewing a called Tennessee reception on the uF one yard line that was clearly not a reception. ( it was ruled incomplete after review ) Meyer was fully invested and animated and it paid off in that huge win for his program. Sat. vs. LSU Dan Mullen was just as energized and invested and he really pumped up the crowd and the team in the 4th quarter with some on the field cheerleading histrionics the likes of which I haven't quite seen from any coach before him. Well coached and motivated will get you a lot of Ws. Now I just hope the team can keep that motivation going.....
This article aptly describes what Mullen has meant to UF's recent success: https://247sports.com/Article/Florida-Gators-Football-Dan-Mullens-play-calling-genius-on-full-display-last-two-weeks-122990195/
Clearly Mullen is off to a good start, but then so was McElwain wasn't he? Still Mullen has a connection to UF and a solid record at Miss State so I think it's going to turn out well for the Gators. Question will be can he handle little Saban at Georgia? Spurrier/Meyer had no problems with Georgia...can Mullen bring that back.
Thanks Terry. Michael is offshore and has a low probability of doing a Hurricane Charlie like hard right turn that would slam us. Otherwise just some storm surge and gusty winds in our area. Georgia the last couple of years is far and above anything McElwain or Meyer had to face..... but this Gator team is rising.... especially on defense which could give us a chance. McElwain never was accused of having any offensive genius like moments.... his offense was moribund most of the time especially against top defenses. He would have been an abject failure were it not for an elite defense that Muschamp left him.
Good point Corey but mentioning the other guys gets a little sensitive. Seriously.... who ever would have guessed Frost and Kelly would have started as poorly as they have. Even with average talent which they must at least have they should win at least a couple of games by now. Jury is out on Fisher but I think Scott must be happy with him and his future potential to coach up a winning team. Taggart is a disaster at FSU....
We did here. The same team quit last year with 5 games left in the season. That was evident against Minn last year. Look at how Minn scored in the rest of their games for proof. Only a handful of returners have bought in. Average talent, give me a break. Failed PAC 12 recruit talent is what you've seen. Non believers transferring, real effort rising to the top. SCOFRO told us that the program had been damaged. He's here to fix what's broke in all departments. HuskerNation will wait patiently.
Agree with AJ... that is a herculean task ahead in Lincoln. I have no doubt he'll get them turned around. Not sure if they'll get to where Tom O had them, but if it can be done I think SCOTT FROST is the guy. 8)
Personally feel that Jimbo is a great coach and will Twix up the SEC shortly, not even a question if the jury’s out, he’s the judge at this point in his career and he will bring justice to kp’s Alabama teams dominance (Good gosh Bama is so many leagues ahead of everyone else at this point). Frost just may have done better at UCF with recruiting but he’s a Husker through and through... Lots of rebuilding needs to be done and I personally hope he accomplishes it, college football is better with a great Husker team. My concern is if he can attract the studs needed to get it done in this era...

Let's see. First, MCG for once you and I are on the same page. Mullen is a real winner in my book. Terry, yes Mac was off to a great start. However what I like better about Mullen is his innovation, the fact that he seems to have this team in better condition where we don't fold in the 4th quarter. Last year in back to back to back weeks we got beat in the 4th quarter to LSU and Texas A&M. He also is very innovative in his play calling and aggressive defensive. At the halfway mark of the season we have matched last years totals in turnovers, sacks and other categories. I was a big supporter of Mac until several games into last season where it became obvious he wasn't making progress and was a rather strange dude. Corey, I thin Dave means to have this topic open for all new coaches but like me is very gung ho about our new coach. What say you about some of the other new coaches, say Chip Kelly.
Ralph! What a well thought out and insightful post. 8) BTW... I know exactly where AJ is right now... I was in his shoes about 2008 when we finally cut out "he that shall not be named" from our program. Poor Mike Sherman inherited very little to work with and it was a long road rebuilding our team, actually losing to Arkansas St in his first attempt.
So someone give me some insight on Chip Kelly. Personally I think the Gators dodged a bullet by not getting him.
I would have been happy with Frost but I didn't think Kelly would cut it in the SEC. To me it was a tie with Mullen and Frost but I don't feel that way now. Very happy it was Mullen.
Chip Kelly inherited a similar situation to Lincoln with a lot of 'me guys' and Nike camp super stars who don't do **** with the pads on. He's not sand bagging per se, but he's loading up with super young talent and they are getting better each week. Washington's defensive stud referred to them as the best offense they've seen this year and said that it's only a matter of time until they start winning games. Things will be slow in UCLA, but when it clicks, it will hit the ground running.
