I don't know what happened but I meant this to be a separate topic not under the Oh My topic. So here's the link. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-bowl-projections-notre-dame-replaces-oklahoma-in-college-football-playoff/
It's an interesting take. I think ND controls their own fate unless some serious media chicanery takes place. I know people like to take shots at our schedule, but if you look at it, how were we suppose to know that programs that had been solid to great for 3 decades at least were going to have down years?
I think Notre Dame is obviously set to make the playoffs if they are undefeated. With 1 loss they will absolutely be in the discussion depending on how many other one loss teams there are. The schedule is fine. Corey is right. Since Notre Dame is kind of in the ACC that part is set. No one could have foreseen Florida State and USC would have such bad years. One negative of course is that all other things being equal the teams in conferences have a conference championship game. That is a chance for them to get a big win at the end of the season while Notre Dame is idle. Of.course it is also the chance to get a big loss at the end of the season while Notre Dame is idle. My guess: undefeated and you're in. 1 loss and you're in the discussion just like all of the other 1 loss teams that play a schedule like you do. 8)
I think that's a fair assessment. I saw one article that made an interesting point about playing FCS teams. The thesis for the article was that FCS wins should be removed from consideration and only games against FBS teams should be considered when discussing schedule.
Corey, I don't disagree with you but that is kind of like a judge telling a jury to disregard the witness ' statement. :?

Way too early, we have 11 undefeated teams now, and all of those teams will not finish undefeated. There are always more upsets to come. Last year there were no undefeated teams at the end of the season. I like the way the Irish are playing, but right now it's pretty clear to me that Alabama is 2 touchdowns better than any other team in college, maybe more. Ohio State, Clemson and Georgia are in the next group that have the rosters to separate themselves. The Irish and the rest would have to have great game and those 4 come out a little off to get the win. That Penn State/Ohio State game is an example. Penn State doesn't have the roster that Ohio State but the Buckeyes came out sluggish and PSU had one hot player who made it a game.
This entire conversation is meaningless, but I guess it makes for interesting conversation for those who wish to partake. After all, that's what this bulletin board is all about. The fact is, ND faces a minefield schedule for the rest of the season, and talk about ND in the playoffs is just another way to incentivize our opponents: Pittsburgh, who just laid 44 points on a Syracuse team who took Clemson to the wire; Navy, well,, it's Navy; a resurgent Northwestern team, who almost beat a very good Michigan team and DID beat a ranked Michigan State team; Florida State, who showed it's a threat in its game vs. a very good Miami team; Syracuse (See Pittsburgh); and of course, Southern Cal at their place, always an end-of-season concern any time we play them there. Is this a different team from last year? It sure seems so. Are we capable of running the table? Maybe. Are we as good as or better than the four teams currently ranked ahead of us? I won't say no, but until we prove it on the field, I can't say yes. I'm superstitious. For that reason, I don't like this conversation. I now will retire to my darkened room with the blinds drawn and hope I can come out and see the light on Nov. 25.
Sid is correct. We do have a lot of meaningless conversations  It is early but the truth of the matter is that you have to position yourself early in the year to secure a place in case you have a loss. Your team's performance now will figure into the determination of who is in the final four. There may not be any undefeateds at the end of the year but there will be multiple one loss teams and the body of work will be one factor. 8)
