I didn't see that coming, what a huge Notre Dame win...probably the biggest win since we went to Norman and beat a good OU team handily. What a night for Jerry Tillery, what a night for Dexter Williams, what a night for Ian Book, what a night for Miles Boykin. Go Irish!
I did, Gip. I sure did. Terry, are you talking about the 1957 game, when we ended OU's 47 game win streak 7-0? Two words for next week's preparation for Va Tech.....TRAP GAME.
 The book on Book: 24/33 for 278 yards and 4 TD passes. 550 total yards of offense and 38 points against the best defense in the west...
8) This is Joe Montana all over again. What was Kelly thinking? Before Book, the Irish couldn't score more than 24 points against anyone; not even Ball State. Since Book was installed, they've scored 96 points in just TWO games! What was Kelly thinking?
I think the comparison to McSorely is a valid one. I think we have better skill people, and a better defense than Rape State, but Book has that 'magic man' **** written all over him. He'll be a good one, hell, maybe even a great one.
ND <t>That had to be the most complete game I’ve seen the Irish play in a long time. It’s also been a long, long time since I’ve seen an Irish QB have a game like that either. Book and Williams had great games. Also, 5 QB sacks! WOW. Defense had a great game too. Feels so nice to beat Stanford like that.<br/> <br/> Go Irish!!</t>
Everything Tim said. The timing of the offense seems so much more precise. The tempo so much quicker. All of a sudden we have yards after cart H and lots of them. This kid is th real deal. And that defense. They dictate the terms. Kicking game was perfect as well. Stanford had no return yards on kick offs. Maybe none on punts.
Alex Bars done for the year. Big loss he was having a great year maybe even playing himself into a 1st round draft choice. He was a great great team leader. Not sure about Tony Jones ankle, with Jafar already out for a while that means the Freshmen will need to be prepared. Avery Davis will get more reps as well What a great game though.
Watched the Highlights again, it's still fun! One play that isn't in any highlight but was IMHO very impressive was on the last drive when we needed to pick up the 1st down to keep the ball away from the Tree's and on 3rd down Book rolled out to his left but it looked like he was going to have to just run it out of bounds and the Tree DB's came up and left #34 freshman RB Jahmir Smith open, he just pitched it to him with his right hand it wasn't really a pass more like an option pitch but it was downfield for the first down. It showed me how he always seems to know where his guys are and can figure out how to get them the ball. That TD pass to Boykin to make it 31-17 he again was running left and was able to "as Flutie noted" flip his hips to get around and make a deadly accurate throw. Those are the kind of plays that Wimbush has no clue on how to make. Jerry Tillery what a game, he was a terror as the game wore on, Costello had time early in the game but as the game went on the Irish defense made adjustments and things were much different in the 2nd half. Same for the Offense, Stanford really came out and went after Bush in the 2nd half and we didn't score in the 3rd qtr except for the FG, but in the 4th Qtr we'd adjusted and put up 14 points and sealed the victory. Dexter what else can you say. I read a story about how his Mom has moved to South Bend and Dexter lives with her. She has some incurable disease and he takes care of her and she keeps him focused. Thanks MOM! Miles Boykin, Book is making his season. He now gets passes that are catchable and he's grabbing them. I think the entire WR corp is energized because the ball is coming to them on time and target. They have a chance now to make plays and show off their skills. He's just totally changed this offense. We run better and we pass better. When he was signed I was glad to get him, but not excited. He wasn't highly rated and I truly thought he wouldn't stick around that he'd be recruited over and he'd transfer. I thought that last year as well, he was Wimbushes backup and I assumed Brandon would improve this year and start the whole season and then Phil Jurkovec would take over and Book would never be a starter and thus a candidate for a transfer. Boy was I wrong.
Terry, that play by Book to Smith reminded me of a couple of past pro QBs who so often made chicken salad out of plays that turned into chicken poop. Fran Tarkenton was always aware of what was going on in the game. I recall him doing things like running a QB draw without telling his team beforehand because the MLB had dropped back before the snap. That backhanded toss was something I've seen done by Bret Favre over the years. It's a rare talent and bodes well for the Irish.
