Bob, far be it for me to make excuses for Auburn, but they had just beaten Georgia and Alabama then lost to Georgia in the SEC Championship game and now they were not even in the playoffs while Georgia and Alabama were playing for the National Championship. They shouldn't have had a let down but I think they did. In any case, Auburn had played 3 games against top 5 teams and UCF had not played anyone in the top 15 all year. Even if Auburn did not have a let down, it was UCFs only win against a ranked team. What do you think their record would have been if they were in the Big Ten?

I knew people.were.going to.disagree with me when I posted about Frost and he may turn out to be another Tom Osborne, but one year at UCF is not enough to make that assertion, at least not in my opinion. 8)

UCF beat 3 teams ranked in the top 25 at the time the games were played--S Fla, Memphis, and Auburn.

Hard to answer the B10 question since the division of the conference into 2 divisions, unbalanced schedules in conference, and easy non conference schedules allows some teams in the B10 West an opportunity run the table without meeting a formidable team in the regular season such as Iowa and Wisconsin in recent years. I thought CFU's team of last year was as good as if not better than the Iowa and Wisky teams that went undefeated until the B10 championship game.

It seems like every year or so we have a Group of 5 type team who runs the table and is clearly a good team, may have even beaten some top 25 type of teams. Did they play the same top to bottom schedule as Power 5 type of teams, probably not. But sometimes in a Bowl they will beat a very good Power 5 team. Everybody remembers the Boise State Fiesta Bowl vs OU. Or the Louisville stomping of the Gators in the Sugar Bowl, or even Urban Meyer's Utah beating I think it was Alabama.

But it's a big leap to make the assumption that those teams were Nat'l Title Caliber type of teams. Maybe they were. But for now I'm pretty good with taking the final four from Power 5 + Notre Dame.

If we eventually expand and go to some sort of NCAA DivII playoff system with 16 teams, I won't be surprised if some non-Power 5 team runs the table some time. You see it in the NFL with a wildcard winning the Super Bowl.

What Frost has to do is to become better than Wisconsin, he doesn't have to be better than Ohio State/Mich/Penn State. His first goal is to take over the Big 10 West from Wisconsin. Wisconsin does it without 5 star players, sure for the most part they pad their non-conf resume, but they did have a series with LSU and have an upcoming series with the Irish. But that's goal #1 beat the team that isn't loaded with 5 star players, who develops a great team like Wisconsin has done since Barry was the coach. Once he does that then they might start getting some of those players you need to compete with 5 star laden teams like Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State.

BTW, I am all for expanding the playoff to 8 teams.

Never made that claim. Simply stated that Frost was a good hire and that your assertion that UCF played only one ranked team was not accurate. But, I guess it is easier to invent arguments for others than it is to do a little homework.

Bob, you're right I messed up. I didn't restate my original argument verbatim. Good catch. Oh and the "wink" at the end of the statement about the bet was supposed to indicate it was a joke not that it was an invention. Obviously I failed.to realize the seriousness of the discussion.

Hold up.. that was not an Urban Meyer led Utah team that slapped a Nick Saban led Alabama team around in the Sugar Bowl (I know, another let down game). That was their current HC who replaced Urban. That Utah team had no place being left out of the BCS.

Urban's team beat Pitt in their bowl game who I believe was a 3 or 4 loss team.

Bob, I did not do what you are accusing me of. My edits were to remove spurious punctuation and autocorrect errors that I missed on my kindle. I'm sorry you feel that I would do that.

    Guys....I can get more Runzas!

FWIW, I posted several months ago that SCOFRO's first year was gonna suck. He can go 0-11 this year and us purists wont like it, but trust me, we understand.

However, ......(pause for affect)....in year 3, we wont be having a doubting conversation like this. The Train is coming ladies. :D

A&M backup OL was arrested last Sat night for reckless driving. I assume he won't make the trip to Alabama, good thing he is a backup.

AJ ....Could you send me some ProV1's instead of Runza's!

KP. In my initial reading I probably solely focused on the sentence that UCF had not beaten a ranked team all year and likely overlooked the earlier sentence that did qualify the later sentence. I'll delete my earler post and apologize for unfairly attacking your credibility. Bob

Heisman Race Week 4...Kyler Murray and Tua have leap frogged over everybody and are now 1-2 in the race. As predicted Ed Oliver is fading fast. Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins is also rising fast. Win and play big at Happy Valley and he'll be in the top 3.
