So we're pretty much at the end of the buy games for now. So Conference schedules should be ramping up and big important games every weekend. This week we don't have a big game on Thurs it's Tulsa/Temple ...meh. Friday has some good games though. Wazzu v USC this is a very big game for both. Wazzu is 3-0, seems like they usually stub their toe against an E.Washington or somebody. But not this year. USC is already in a must win situation, they have 1 conf loss and can't afford a 2nd conference loss. That loss to Texas had to sting, and I don't think USC faithful will be happy starting the season 1-3. Penn State at Illinois ..has to be a rare appearance for PSU not on a Saturday. Illinois is not a good team and Penn State even if caught looking ahead to Ohio State should win handily. Saturday. Georgia at Missouri. Should be another So.Carolina type of win for UGA Neb at Michigan. Will likely be a painful Saturday for Scott Frost and Neb fans. Notre Dame at Wake Forrest First road game for the Irish who have been struggling mightily on offense. Can't look ahead to Stanford, Wake is as good as Vanderbilt and Ball State, so they can beat us. Texas A&M at Alabama. Big SEC game of the week. Jimbo v Sabin. Sabin certainly has the upperhand, he's 12-0 when facing a former assistant. And he has way more talent than Jimbo at this time. Clemson at Ga. Tech. Should be no problem for the Tigers, they've seen the triple option every year so it's not a big deal to their defense. Tulane at Ohio State . The return of Urban Meyer. 70+ points for the Buckeyes. Tulane gets a nice check. Kansas State at W.Va. The Mountaineers get started into B12 play they are expected to contend for the title, Kansas State hasn't been impressive so far. So.Car at Vanderbilt an important SEC East matchup, Georgia's going to win the East but So.Carolina no doubt was counting on finishing 2nd. I don't know how good Vandy is to tell you the truth. They looked good to me on Saturday but it might have been the Irish who made them look good. TCU at Texas A very big Big 12 game. TCU coming off a great effort in losing to Ohio State, only a couple of plays away from winning that game. Texas coming off a very satisfying win over USC even if USC isn't very good right now. TCU will need to avoid the emotional let down you see teams go through after a big loss. Longhorns will need to play a lot better because TCU is a very good team who could boat race the Longhorns if it gets going their way. Texas Tech at Oklahoma State Another big game in the B12. Neither are expected to be top tier B12 teams but both have put up a couple of nice wins. Florida at Tenn This used to be THE early season game in the SEC. But it's been awhile since that was the case. But it is a must win game for both if they want to have a shot at UGA. Miss State at Kentucky ... a couple of SEC teams that could mess up your Saturday. Joe Moorehead has the Dawgs undefeated including a road win over Kansas State. Keep an eye on Joe. Ark at Auburn ... man how bad a start is the new Ark coach getting off to in Fayetteville. Really bad loss this past weekend. Auburn needs to bounce back from the LSU game. I think they will easily. Mich State at Indiana ...ordinarily not a big game for MSU under Dantonio but that loss at Az State needs atonement. Stanford at Oregon. Tree's are currently the Pac12's best shot at the CFP but have to beat Oregon at Autzen. Ducks haven't really played anybody yet so don't know how good they are, they supposedly have a very good QB. Tree's have ND after facing the Ducks. Here's hoping they leave it all on the field in Oregon and have nothing left for the Irish! Arizona State at Washington They are all big games now for the Huskies they can not afford another loss. Arizona State is likely to play loose as they have nothing to lose. Wisconsin at Iowa. Badgers another team that needs a bounce back win, they were one of the teams people thought had a chance for the CFP, still could if they win out. Here's a list of Joel's picks for top games Va.Tech at Old Dominion FIU at Miami Army at Oklahoma ...would have been big in 1947 LaTech at LSU ....Eddie O deserves a break. Texas Southern at Houston. They are right across the street from one another, Houston used their basketball court last year during renovations of their own court. Ed Olivers Heisman campaign went down in the 63-49 loss to Tech last week. Cougars will make TSU pay.
Uh oh...good things the Bruins have the weekend open to get the QB's dad back on board with Chip Kelly. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/24712814/dad-ucla-qb-dorian-thompson-robinson-criticizes-chip-kelly
While Thurs. doesn't excite most football fans, let's remember that Temple last Sat. beat Maryland by 3 TDs. Yep, that's the same Maryland.....oh, never mind.
So we follow that out with Temple beat MD which beat Texas who beat USC to Temple is better than USC! Anybody who of course beats Temple like Villanova are also > than Texas and therefore > USC!
SEE...THAT'S EXACTLY what we want them to think! [Sigh] .......Who the hell am I kiddin....congrats Bobda....Runzas in the mail...
I want some Runzas!!! Did you guys see this vid? Funny stuff: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/kTPG6jccjSM" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media"></iframe>
Yeah I saw that, it's hilarious. I really enjoy Funnymaine's weekly videos on how Tide fans watched each week in football.
Let me throw this in: I haven't seen Arkansas' schedule, but I suspect they won't win a conference game this year. They are that bad right now.
AJ, Frost was a great hire. He walked into a tough situation with Pelini napalming every bridge and overpass in Lincoln when he left followed by Riley's ineptitude but feel confident that he is going to build a program that will get you fired up again.
I think Frost will win and win big at Nebraska in time. As Bobda mentioned, there's a lot of road that needs to be repaved. Frost is the guy you want building that infrastructure.
I hope Frost fulfills all of the Nebraska fan's dreams, but all he has really done as a head coach is beat an Auburn team that suffered from a pretty big emotional letdown. We have seen this before. Obviously, recruiting will be key and he does not have his own players yet, but he didn't have his own players at UCF either. :? I know this post won't be very popular but his only accomplishments are that he played at Nebraska (transferred from Stanford) and he had one great season and one great win at a school in a pretty weak conference. Once again, I guess we'll see.
Guess you're right KP He took over a team that went 0-!2 and in his first season went 6-7. His second season his team was 13-0. Going from 0-12 to 13-0 in 2 seasons is something that just about any football coach could do.
Yeah it's hard to deny that Frost didn't do anything but an excellent job at UCF. But translating that to the next level isn't a given. Kevin Sumlin was a huge success at Houston, took them to the Conference Finals had them really rockin' but when he moved up to the next level it was a different story, mixed success at best. Tom Herman, great success in 2 years at Houston, beat OU, beat FSU, won a ton of games. At Texas the jury is still out whether or not he's going to make the leap to be the next great Texas Coach. Time will tell on Scott Frost, he did a great job at UCF, you have to give it that he was a terrific hire for Neb. Now we'll see where they are in 3 years or so. Can they become the top team in the Big 10 West? Don't know yet.
Gipper, he was only at UCF for 2 yrs. I know you don't put any stock in strength of schedule but he didn't play anyone, well he is going to have to play some quality teams now. So like I said, we will see. Corey, but he had already won an NC at LSU. Terry, those are the guys I was thinking about when I wrote the post above. Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore!!!
I see that the Aggies are 26.5 point underdogs to Alabama. I forget what the line was when Clemson came to College Station. While it's not fair to compare games esp a road game for Clemson vs a home game for Alabama.....but it will be a common opponent for Vegas and the committee to consider.
So that excuse is that Auburn was not outplayed and outcoached by CFU but that they could not regroup after losing their conference championship game? Interestingly, Wisconsin also lost a play off opportunity by losing their conference championship game but they managed to pull themselves together to win the Orange Bowl.
