well that should tumble them from number 8 to number 48...good thing this team plays such a weak schedule..or they would be sub 500 at end of season!!
ND <t>three thoughts...<br/> 1. jif5....get lost you idiot. <br/> <br/> 2. I Miss Harry Hiestand<br/> <br/> 3. Ian Book</t>
 I went to a birthday party for a three year old after halftime. That was as good a place to hide as any. I don't have a cell phone so I didn't have to answer any questions...
Beat Vandy solidly and as the year goes on, hopefully people will forget this nightmare of Kellyism..... Can we not use Book to do anything but hand off?
well well..Mr Texas Western himself....Try riding your Bike over to Juarez today...make you feel better !!
The team did not appear well prepared. Our O- Line was manhandled a good portion of the game. They never had control of the LOS. Wimbush is average at best. Passing accuracy is average. Judgement the same. Not a true leader. Defense is very good. Turnovers and an off punting performance kept the pressure on them the entire game. ND plays to the level of their competition. Look how these other top teams dealt with their patsies. That's the difference.
ND <t>jif5,<br/> <br/> Remind me now, cause I honestly can’t remember (why would I), just what college team you follow and call your favorite?</t>
Jiffy is as bad at college football as he is at college basketball! Voters keep the Irish at #8! Although even expected us to drop a few spots.
Don't worry, Tim. Once the Red Sox crap the bed in the post season, JIF will do his usual disappearing act.
Jif has hated the Irish since I don't know when, my first memory of him is him trashing the Irish schedule on Prodigy. I don't know why he hates the Irish so much and I doubt it started in 1990 when he came on Prodigy. It is what it is. On the Irish. We certainly have a lot of work to do especially on the OL, both Mich and Ball State took advantage of our OT and caused a lot of pain for Brandon Wimbush. If they can't get that fixed then we're going to likely loose 3 or 4 games. I was most concerned that Brandon threw so many balls up for grabs and ended with 3 picks. That last pick I don't know where he was going, he had a wide open receiver and just sailed it over his head and if he was trying for the guy who was covered up that's just as bad. I like the guy, he seems like a good kid, good student, good teammate, and all of that but I had hoped for more improvement than we've seen so far. It makes me wonder if he can make that improvement. He's been in our system for a long enough time that if it was going to happen it would seem like it would have happened. But for it to happen I think Quinn and Long have to figure out something that gets our tackles playing well. We've recruited well over the last 4 or 5 years on the OL so it's not like we have a bunch of no talent kids there, granted just because a kid is highly recruited doesn't mean they will have it to make it in big time college football. We saw flashes of good things from the WR's and RB's so if we can get the OL fixed then the RB's especially should be solid and Wimbush should have time to hit the WR's/TE's. The defense has been solid. It was a little disconcerting that the Ball State offense was able to get a couple of long drives on us and keep the game closer than it should have been. Their QB looked pretty good at times, but most of the time our defense shut him down and their running game as well. For a big guy he was pretty nifty with his feet and got out of a number of rushes where I thought we had him and ran for 1st downs. As far as Book, I was really hoping he'd get in the game for a lot of reasons first of which it would mean the game was well in hand, the second would of course be to get him game action so he'll be ready when called upon. I hope Cole Kmet is OK, Kelly said they were doing further evaluation through out the week. I hope it's not the dreaded high ankle sprain as that is one of those things that hampers you through out the season. Only gets better when you stop playing on it for awhile. But TE is one of our deepest positions with Mack, Weishar and Brock Wright. Plus there are 2 Freshmen TE's who are highly thought of as well in Tommy Tremble and George Takac's. I've been somewhat impressed with Jafar Armstrong at RB, he's not Josh Adams but he's got talent and did you see some of the catches he made coming out of the backfield. I like this kid. I'm still more than a little surprised that he beat out Tony Jones Jr. This is like a salary year for Jones, a great Sr. season means he might get drafted by the NFL a mediocre one means free agent at best and likely early cut and getting on the practice squad treadmill. So he should have had a lot of motivation to come back and do what ever is necessary to be that back. He's come off the bench and had some good plays, his TD run yesterday is very good. A lot of people are thinking Dexter Williams will be that bell cow at RB when he comes back. But truthfully I wonder about Dexter it seems like his whole career has been potential and some really good plays but a lot of no shows as well. We'll see.
I think that JIF is just a bagels and lox kind of guy that doesn't like Catholic schools. It would be a shame if Kmet has a serious injury. He and the other starters should have been on the bench watching those kids who but their asses in practice but seldom get a chance to play compete. Instead we had to expose our starters and first line subs to injury because we couldn't handle a MAC team. As to Wimbush I think that there was some frustration involved and he thought he's rangy receivers could out jump the defenders for the ball. Not smart QB play but when your COPs can't give you time to watch deep patterns develop, the frustration sets in. If you subtract Alexander's one big run we averaged less than 2 yds. per rush. That's pitiful. Just about every series we were in 3rd and 6 or 7. If he had just decent protection he probably would have been much more effective. He's improved on the flanker screens. Boykin was able to catch one off his shoe tops which is a big improvement over last year when he threw it into the ground 3 ft. short of the receivers.
ND <r><B><s></s>New Commit<e></e></B>: Edwardsville (Ill.) high school wide receiver Kendall Abdur-Rahman, a four-star wide receiver according to 247Sports and one of Illinois’ top prospects from the class of 2019, has committed to Notre Dame.<br/> <br/> jif5: I'll take Bobda's advice and ignore him<br/> <br/> Wimbush: I'm sorry but it's over for me as far as Wimbush is concerned. At this point he's not gonna get any better. He is capable of some great things with his feet but that doesn't outweight they bad he gives us with his arm. It's time to start Book. He gives us the best chance of winning this year.</r>
I'm all for using both at this time, but I find our usage of Book very curious. Everyone knows he can pass. That's the reason we keep putting him in and the handoffs wind up going for big plays or TDs. I'm just wondering if they're going to wait until we're stuck in a 'must pass' game situation and then trot him out there. If that's the case, then why not start him?
Class is getting pretty full with this latest verbal. They are hoping that OL Walter Rouse will give his verbal to the Irish, it's either us or Stanford.
Naturally it benefits the Irish if the teams they play and hopefully beat have great seasons, ergo why we need to root for Mich and now Ball State. Ball State plays at IU this Saturday, IU is 2-0 having beat FIU and Virginia. They were picked to be towards the bottom of the Big 10 by ESPN #10 out of 14 teams in the pre-season. So what's going to happen, after a great effort by Ball State on the road at ND Stadium they might have spent their emotional capital and will now get mud stomped by IU! Naturally we'd like to see them beat IU, but somehow I just doubt that they will put up the same effort as they did v ND. Not that they will quit or not play hard, but they are bound to have some letdown after playing their hearts out esp on defense at ND.
