..........in women's soccer, after beating Florida State 2-1. ND is #1 ranked and undefeated at 24-0-1. They'll play North Carolina for all the marbles. I received the following from a friend: Notre Dame has a bevy of star players, including sophomore Kerri Hanks, who leads the nation in goals and assists and is one of three finalists for the award as the top female college soccer player. Coincidentally, her boyfriend, Joseph Lapira, leads all men's soccer players in scoring and is one of three finalists for the top male college soccer player. He is a junior with the Irish, who lost in the round of eight after defeating defending National Champion Maryland in the round of 16.
Ya know Sid, I'd just be a little leery if my daughter's boyfriend led the nation in scoring.....but that's just me.<g> I wonder how many of those talented ladies on our soccer team could kicd a football into the endzone.
This is the 4th time that the Irish and the Tarheels have gone at it for the Nat'l Championship. The Irish haven't beaten them yet, though we do have 2 Nat'l Titles to our credit (1995 and 2004). Time to whip some Tarhell butt!!! No S&M puns allowed!! Terry
So you saw the miss on the empty net at the end of the game. I thought she waited too long. I like woman's sports! Don't ask me why!
Terry, you miss an empty net by kicking wide or over the net!  I think we are missing part of the story.
She came downfield slightly to the left side of the net. Two opposing players caught up with her and cut off her path to the middle. Like AJ said, she waited about 10 yards too long, because by the time she kicked at an angle the face of the net had narrowed considerably, and the kick went wide to the right.
OK I see what you mean. I never knew that they pulled the goalie like they do in Hockey....calculated risk. But congrats to the Ladies, it's always nice to beat Free Shoes U.
