You have to give Jeff Quinn some kudos/props for the job he is doing in recruiting for the OL. Granted he is building off of the success that Harry had with putting so many of his players in the NFL as high draft choices but still he has to get out there and meet them and continue the work and from what I read Quinn likes recruiting where Harry really didn't like recruiting and was one of the reasons he went back to the NFL. Big question is of course can Quinn develop these kids as well as Harry did, we won't know that till the end of October. I don't think we are through with recruiting OL, I think Zeke Correll out of Cincy is still a big target and we hope to get his verbal sometime in the future, but it's not a sure thing as being an Ohio kid, Urban will be very tough to beat.
Rumors flying that Dexter Williams is being suspended. Nothing official yet, but clearly where there is smoke there is usually fire. If he is suspended it's a big blow to the offense, that would leave us with only Tony Jones Jr as an experience RB next fall. Somebody will have to step up big time. Of course I don't know what he did but it is not just a blow to the team, it's a blown chance him, he's a senior, he had a good spring, he was poised to be the starter at RB and a good season could have propelled him to the NFL. Now if he doesn't play his Sr. year he's at best an FA. I guess he could use this year as a RS and come back next year as a Graduate somewhere and play and hope to resurrect his options. How stupid not to keep up your academics and how stupid to do something that gets you suspended your senior year.
RB <t>The freshman RB in the spring game looked good. Guess he'll have to step up sooner than expected. Yes, it is unfortunate for Williams and the team if rumor is true.</t>
Well one thing about skill positions like RB and WR, they are positions that freshmen can come in and contribute big time. Nothing from ND though about Dexter. They are in finals this week, so if it's academic it probably won't come out until all grades are in which is according to the calendar is the 14th. Might even wait till after graduation weekend so as to not take away from those athletes who made the grade and will be getting their degree's. I see that ND's Men's lacrosse will be taking on Denver in the 1st round of the playoffs at ND. They beat Denver early in the season. They are the #7 seed, it's a 16 team field and 8 teams are seeded.
You need a high threshold for pain and disappointment to be a diehard Irish fan. It is not for the easily discouraged.
